Electrical help - Gas gauge/Brake Lights
So I need some help and I am going to go into detail so someone can maybe see where my issue is because I am lost.
1. I was replacing a tank cover on my wife's Dyna. (2016 Dyna Streetbob). In doing so I unplugged on the gas gauge. (Wire was caught up so I pulled a bit on it I assumed this is where my issue started...)
2. I went to plug the gas gauge back in and turn on the bike. Everything functioned as normal, but the gas gauge was now reading nothing and the dash stated "Low range" and gas light.
3. I checked all wiring I could see. (which isnt much). Nothing was sticking out so I ordered a new gas gauge.
4. I plugged in the new gas gauge to test. Turned on and nothing. Same result.
5. Later I was looking at the turn signals and noticed they were blinking fast on the dash. I looked closer and the back brake lights were out entirely. Both of them. When you go to turn them on there is a high pitch whine for a half a second around the lights but nothing happens. Same thing when I try to turn on the turn signals.
6. I pulled the wire back a bit where the gas gauge connected as I assumed it must be there. This all started there. Again nothing obvious.
Notes: I only have 3 fuses, but all are fine.
Where do I go next? I am at a loss. The wire between the gauge and there appears fine but it loops in with something else mid tank, and then hits a rubber covered area before the battery/wire home area under the seat. Nothing else has been changed other than trying the new gas gauge today. The bulbs look ok.
Thanks for any tips. Right now the wire to the gas gauge is not connected to anything and taped off. No change in anything.

The brake lights being out and the weird sound were confusing me as the issue appeared to me first as the gas gauge. But it dawned on me, maybe thats when I noticed it but really the brake light was the issue the whole time? After all I took the fender off and on to wrap it and redid that wiring.
So I unplugged both back lights and plugged one in at a time. One worked suddenly. The other did not. So I then left the working one plugged in and wired back in the gas gauge and? Voila. Gas gauge is back.
This whole time I had a backfeed/crossed wire/somethig on the back brake light that was causing issues with all three. I will now connect everything back and last rewire the brake light that was causing the issue.
Maybe this helps someone else in the future. Even though you THINK you know where your issue began, it might not be the case.
(What helped me figure this out was watching a GoPro video of a ride last week with the wife. The whole time I thought the brake lights were working, but after watching the video they were not! Lesson learned for so many reasons....)
