The engine check light didnt come on when I had the issue with the neutral switch wiring, but the fault code was there.
Just want to say thanks for your reply, just like you mentioned, there were a few codes logged and it looks like I have a short somewhere in the lights. I started looking into it, moving wires around, and the lights have not gone off since. Hopefully I will be able to find and fix the actual problem next time I work on it.

Glad you now have some direction to look for.
I would check the wiring from the bars where it goes in to the head stock, mine is like a rats nest of wiring and connectors shoved in there, it would not take much for a wire to rub through and cause a intermittent short.
Looks like maybe its only a ECM fault that will have the engine check light come on and not with a BCM related fault.
My guess is that the computer thinks the voltage is low and is shutting down less important draws. Headlight, brake and turn signals never shut down.
