Changed Plans, Bought Low Rider - Tourer too?
I had decided to purchase a 2008 Super Glide Custom, Vivid Black, no other options. My choice was based upon my desire to finally own a Harley after 10 other bikes - each purchased because Harleys are too expensive, or because they are not well built (listening to non Harley owners), or because they are "poor running, worse handling, old machines", again from previous owners of other brands.
The key is that I've had some disability in my arms and can't gain full upper body strength, coupled with my 5'7" frame and my desire to have the wife aboard, at least for short rides under an hour or so. When I went to the dealer, who has been absolutely terrific and patient - answered all my questions, offered test rides, anything at all to help, I found that the standard Super Glide is a bit too tall and the bars a bit too far away. The LowRider fit almost perfectly with the extra bonus of having my wife more comfortable on the back. I also liked the black/chrome look better than the aluminum/chrome of the SG Custom, but both are fine. I found the pulled back bars of the Lowrider a better balance for me, and the lower seat height gave me more confidence if my arm strength fails. Finally, despite the more classis look of the Custom speedometer, I have always had a tach on my bikes and I have grown to rely upon them often. I like the dual speedometer/tach display of the LowRider.
My only remaining concern is that I bought a 2007 leftover at a bit of a discount, not very much, instead of the 2008 version. Since there are no real differences between the two, except for a braided brake cable, I didn't see any real reason to wait, especially since the color I want will take about 6 weeks to become available. The dealer also made several suggestions about handlebar angle adjustments, rear light alterations to make the turn signals as brake lights, and other useful tips. I know that I could have saved a few extra dollars, but I truly believe that the dealer earned the money with his help and free use of a bike for a trial.
Without the help of your feedback and very helpful suggestions this would have been a much more difficult decision. Thanks again for the help and advice. I guess you all ready know this, but I've been a member of many motorcycle forums - Triumph, BMW, Ducati, and none of them have offered the amount of help and useful suggestions that this group has. I guess "you Harley people" have to work a bit on being more difficult - you'll ruin your image! (;->

You won't be disappointed in your choice. I too own a Low Rider, 2006 model. I love it. Just returned from a ride. I've been doing seat of the pants calibrations to my new exhaust system--a Samson Big Guns III Boloney cut model. Check it out at the Samson site. I think you'll agree they really dress up the bike. Plus they make it sound likea Harley. Enjoy your choice and keep the rubber side down.
