2012 Dyna FXDC BCM Replacement
I'm in this bad habit of buying bikes that are wrecked or need some love in the winter monthsthen turning them around and selling them for a small profit or breaking even if I'm lucky in the summer months. The point is, that I have a lot of Frankenstein collision-type questions.
My most recent purchase was a 2012 Dyna Super Glide Custom FXDC with the stock 96 twin cam. The bike for the most part was still in great shape. The overall damage was to the outer primary cover, the fuel tank, and the BCM. I bought the bike out of a tow yard for $2k with 14k miles! So I figured it was the perfect winter project and will probably be my go-to bike this season.
As of right now, all repairs have been made- new primary cover, new fuel tank, forward controls, replaced the ignition coil, new ECM caddy and cover, grips, handlebars, cosmetics etc. Now it's time to breathe life into the bike and get a new BCM. So there are two issues. Both the BCM and the connector need to be replaced. When the bike got in the accident the BCM got completely ripped out of it. So the BCM is bent in half and I was able to order a new one on Ebay based off the part number on the old one. And I need to replace the BCM connector on the wiring harness. So I bought a 2013 FXDC wiring harness off Ebay as well and cut off the BCM connector and soldered them together with solder joints (rate my handiwork). And then plugged in the BCM and Walla! the bike came to life.
Now here is my true question, with the new BCM plugged in, everything is working as it should. blinkers, hand controls, lights etc. BUT on my dash, when I flip on the ignition, the right turn signal (on my dash only) and my oil pressure indicator lamp stay illuminated. and when I turn on my turn signal on my hand controls the oil pressure indicator lamp flashes.
I haven't taken the bike into the dealership yet to have them flash the BCM and marry it to the ECM. So as of right now, the bike only lights up but can't
turn over. Does anyone know if this oil indicator lamp issue on the dash will fix itself when they marry it to the ECM? Is this an indication that I have a faulty BCM? When I soldered the new BCM connector on, I married it up to the old harness wire for wire. They all matched in color, gauge, and number of wires so I figured they were 1:1 compatible. Is it possible that they are not and I have crossed wires? is a 2012 FXDC wiring harness and a 2013 FXDB wiring harness not the same?
If you have read all the way to this part of the post, I applaud you. It's long, and I do apologize.
I highly appreciate your feedback and expertise on this subject. I'm bringing the bike into the shop this week once my new front wheel arrives. Please see attached photos of my progress and the bike in its current standing.
