I try to play the what if rule also, and I use what I call the AIRPLANE EFFECT.....Planes crash and people die....But the plane I am on, aint going to crash....so today ain't my day.....
Bikes crash....and people die...But the bike I am on...aint going to crash....
Just drive as sane and as safe as you can....watch out for every body.....stay out of blind spots....watch the intersections....You obey all the laws.....and when the cagers...dont....just give em the right of way....
You drive that BIKE...with this attitude....I cant let somebody kill me today....I HAVE TO GET HOME TODAY.....somebody needs me tomorrow....
Sure riding is dangerous. So is getting out of bed. My advice to you is to feel the fear and do it anyway! A good healthy dose of respect for the machine you are about to climb on and the cages out there to get you will certainly improve your odds.
What a terrible world we would live in if we quit doing things because of fear!
The 2 most dangerous periods you'll ride are: the first few months when you are still learning the basics, and when you think you really have it wired and start taking more and more chances. Be alert and ride within your capabilities and you will safely enjoy the sport. Good luck to you!
If you don't already, eventually your going to meet other riders & have a "riding night" with buddies as I & many others do. Out of our group of about 6-8 of us, there's about 2-3 guys that love to hammer down the highway after we've had a couple beers. I just let these guys go as fast as they want & travel at my own comfortable pace. I only get to the destination aminute or 2later than them&I'm safe & still in one piece when I get there. Ride at your own comfortable pace & enjoy the bike instead of letting it scare the **** out of you. It'll make you a better rider because you'll begin to feel a sense of complete confidence & control & you'll progress from there. Leave the dare devilriding for Evil Knievel!
Ride like you're invisible to everyone else on the road, cause most of the time you are. I've had my share of close calls but by riding that way I was prepared for the unexpected.
There's a little danger in everything we do.
Either live in a bubble, or go out and enjoy!
Life's just too damn short...
I so agree. If you dwell and read about car wrecks, you will fear driving your car too. If you dwell on the possibility of getting cancer..heart attack..the list goes on and on. MC riding is "more dangerous" but so is mountain climbing, skiing and all the other fun stuff.
