Default front caliper misalignment

Hi Guys,

I bought a 2009 superglide project bike. It came with front caliper not mounted on the fork, it was fixed to the frame with a tywrap.
I had some parts powedercoated, and now assembling the bike.

The last owner mounted streetbob (laced) wheels which look nice.

However the front caliper doesn't fit, it is to far near the fork. It's about 5mm off I'm guessing.
As you can see in the pic I already filed off the powedercaot layer on the caliper and fork where the two parts face.

I could place a 5mm shim between the left fork and the left spacer, but that doesn't feel right, and might bring sideward tension to the legs.

The brake rotor should be more to the right but that's not possible.

Attached 2 pics, hope this gives a good picture of the situation.

Any thouhgts on this ?

Thnx!

Can you confirm for us that the wheel is in fact centered in the forks?
Someone will be along shortly to check me on this, but IIRC there is a scenario where the donor wheel may have come from a bike with ABS and the left-hand bearing is different from the non-ABS bikes and that would cause the wheel to shift to the left and 'pinch' the forks together and that's bad.
The wheel hub must be centered in the forks without pinching or spreading the forks.

Thnx, Optically the tire is centered with the fender. I will check if the lower forks are under tension when I tighten the wheelnut tomorrow.

You probably just have a mismatch of wheel, bearings, spacers (or assembly of parts) between the different era of dyna parts.

Post a pic of the wheel & close-up of bearings of both sides and pic of your spacers and axle

.

No, should be the same, at least for the laced wheels, item #6 in drawing.

Axle/Wheel Spacer 1-1/2 x 1 x .985 (=25mm) Harley-Davidson OEM# 11804

It could be that the wheel bearings were not installed correctly, one is pressed into the bottom of the housing, then the other up against the bearing spacer. If that isn't done right there will be alignment issues.

Unfortunately, you have the wrong Left Silder installed.

The one installed is for a "Wide Glide" or Fat Bob. Which one could be determined by seeing the fender mounts, but I'm guessing WG unless you see modfications to the fender to make it fit.

Regardless, you need a different slider

Ah, that makes sense, I asume 'slider' is the spacer, that needs to be 30mm instead of 25mm, i'll have a look at the parts fishes, I'll post the result here. Thnx!
