Gears out, being cleaned up. Nothing jumps out at me as being horrible.There is a great set of videos from "Tinkering with Harleys" detailing every step of tearing down and rebuilding this 5 speed. Really well done. Doesn't look as difficult as I feared. Even my indie told me a cautionary, "good luck!" when I told him what I was up to. But, I think it's going to be fine.
Aside from the bearings/gaskets/seals and primary cover bearing race, all I plan to replace at this point is the pawl assy. unless something else pops up down the line. That way I get fresh shifting fingers and springs.
I like the increased ball size idea. I didn't know about that. I'm going to try it, thank you.
Why not take some pictures of the granny and post. Makes it easier for the knowledgeable people here to see potential problems and provide a solution(s).
