Default Forward controls fitment question

I have a 97 FXD with crappy aftermarket forwards on it. I want the Harley forward controls Part Number: 49021-09 . Harley's website says it fits 06-17 Dyna. Would there be any reason why these wouldn't fit? I would hate to shell out 500 bucks for something that's a no go. Thank you for your help

Is that a trick question..???

Forgive me for being Captain Obvious..... but they may not fit because you have a 1997 FXD and the Harley fitment guide says they fit '06-'17 Dyna models.

Now, that doesn't mean they absolutely won't fit..... but, it's not something I would ignore, and spend the money, without some actual, hands-on research.

With the difference in years of the models, the Harley fitment guide stated fitments, and the fact that both '97 & '06 Super Glides use a different frame number (could be just engine related or ????) .... I wouldn't buy them unless;

1) Someone posts on this thread and says that they will absolutely fit based on personal experience. Even then, I would want it to be someone I believe to be credible on this forum before gambling $500.

2) I could inspect and measure an '06-'17 Dyna to compare to my '97 Dyna in the area of forward control mount holes, pipe clearances, etc, etc..

Good luck with your mod.... keep us posted on how it works out

From the P&A catalog:
49080-03A Chrome. Fits ’93-’05 Dyna models. Stock on ’03-’05 FXDWG models. Not compatible with Engine Guard on FXD and FXDL models
49080-06A Chrome. Fits ’06-later Dyna models with mid-controls.
Not sure if the '06 version will fit or not.
If you compare the part numbers in both Instruction sheets you will notice only a minor difference in parts used.

Harley changed the frame in 96 and again in 06.
I seriously doubt those controls will work on your bike without some modifications.

I have a 1998 Dyna that had the stock mid controls. I bought the HD Further Forward controls kit that was advertised to fit '06-'17 Dynas with stock mid controls. Fit perfectly, didn't have to modify anything. The kit is basically mid controls that extend 2" forward for a bit more leg room.

My point is, it might fit. Do some internet research, examine some close up pictures, etc. Good luck.

Go find the right year forward controls on the Bay and install. Lots of guys taking them off to be the cool Dyna Guy with mids, find OEM parts and be happy.

I bypassed the whole issue. I had an '03 Superglide with mid controls. I always converted my sportys to forward controls, but decided to try something different on that Dyna. I installed kuryakyn footpegs with the heel rest accessory. Those mid controls felt much better - kind of like floorboards almost. Saved me money and worked great.
