i noticed that there is a loud rattling sound coming from behind me when im riding has anyone else heard this after installing the docking hardware for a detachable sissy bar! i cant figure out where the hell its coming from
Ya know, I remember a thread about this in the past. I was quite worried as I waited for my parts to come in thinking I was gonna have a can-o-ball bearings following me down the road. Got all my stuff installed and I get absolutly NO noise!
I have two setups, one using the Jackyl plate thing for a cheep *ss TourPak clone I got off eBay, and another set of brackets with the genuine HD backrest and lugage rack.
Not a click, clack, bump, rattle or anything on either of them.
Mine rattles like crazy. Just throw the ole lady on back and let her hold it down. If she ain't riddin then I take it off. That's why I got the detachable one......
Same thing as what I do, but it would be nice to be able to leave it on the tie a jacket or something to it without it rattlin like crazy. drives me nuts.
When I installed mine on my 08 SuperGlide I had to get a couple extra washers just to install the docking hardware securely. With the backrest on, it sure does rattle. Same thing on my 05 Sportster with the detachable back rest. I always ride with a bag attached to the backrest and have it secured by wraping the straps around the rear turn signals. No rattles.
Mine did too, notice past tense. I actually rarely took it off. I ride daily to work & bungee a back-pack filled with my lunch & coffee.
Went back to rigid side-plates& sissy bar, much more practical.
Take off the detach sissy bar then go for a ride, rattle should be gone. At least that's what mine does. Seems to rattle more when I don't have the saddlebags attached, must take up the small gap that makes it rattle.
okay well i put the sissy bar back on today and rode it around and i still heard the rattle i think it mught be my stock mufllers. i think the top one is makin all the rattlln noise. but if the bikes off and i shake the hell out of it it dosnt make any noise at all? could be my imagination but that noise is driving me nuts.
Interesting discussion and first I heard about rattling. I had a Road King Classic for 3 years w/detachable bar/backrest and never heard a sound from the setup, with the sissy bar on or off. Am having one put on a new '08 FXDC by dealer.
I noticed your bags...that's the setup I chose, but then backed off because I'm fixated on the idea of detachable bags (I know, it's a personal problem!). Just wondering how you like your bags, and if you needed to take 'em off, is there much to it?
