Default Fuel Range on 2017 Low Rider FXDL

I just got this bike and I am trying to figure out how far I can ride on a tank of gas.
Checking my mileage with 2 tanks of gas, and by how many miles I went and how many gallons I used, I came up with 41 mpg.
So with a 4.7 gallon tank, I would believe that I should use approx 3.7 gallons before the fuel light comes on, leaving me a gallon reserve.
My fuel light comes on around 125 miles. I fill up at 134 miles, and it only takes 3.2 gallons.
Is my fuel light coming on too early?

My low fuel light comes on with 1+ gallon remaining.
Gauge shows about 1/4 left. I fill up with needle at -E-, about 4-1/2 gallon.

My 2016 FXDLS Low Fuel light came on with a gallon left. I only ran out of gas once

It was that night that I knew I needed a 6 gallon tank...

Ignore the light and go by mileage.
On my FI bikes I would reset the trip meter at every fill up.
Knowing I could safely go about 200 miles on a tank full, I’d start looking for gas at the 160-170 mile mark. Or just use the needle and fill up at 1/4 tank.

My opinion is the same as Bubba's, Ignore the light. You'll miss it some day when distracted.

At night, is a little different since it's noticeable. But I go by milage.

And go for conservative unless your local and know the area. These bike are hard work pushing them and could just get you killed running out.

And it's not good for the fuel pump either. Last one I looked inside actually pulls the fuel thru the armature for cooling..

Good thing liquid gasoline doesn't burn.

On the light, I would say it's right. You really can't count that last 1/2 gallon as reliable on mountains and curves. Even 1 is pushing it.

4.7-3.2= 1.5 Engineering 1. 5

@flyboyron Pretty bike... I like that red. Hope you don't consider my post rambling off topic. Say so if you do..

Millage is the way to go. You can tell the new guys. Back in the day you opened your tank and looked in or went by mileage. No fuel light on them older bikes.

I will try using the trip meter and should be able to go at least 150 miles. I can judge then by how much fuel it takes.
