Got a 07 Fxwg, puttin some 14" ape bars on it this week. Been lookin for a year tryin to deceide on a windshield. I seen the one at the H-D shop that has the C-Clamps that looks good, and is for quick release making it easy to take off and looks clean.. I've been told to pay attention to how high it is, not to git it too high and that to pay attention to what kind of material its made out of, they scratch real easy. I keep seeing dudes that took a Jig saw and cut theirs off cause they couldn't look over them. I have neer used a windshield since 1964 and do not know what its like to ride a bike with one. The Bugs was total murder last nite and I know it won't be long before cold season starts to creap upon us. Appeciate any wide glide owners help.
Cutting them is NOT a problem! I just took two inches off of mine. I am not crazy about the way they look but I'm spoiled now and prefer to ride with one.
I have a memphis slim 15' quick detachable (loosen 4 screws). I wanted one as small as I could get away with because I don't like the looks of them on a Wide Glide. It does not cure everything but the wind is cut down 80% and I can deal with it. They do scratch easily, be careful what you use to wipe them with.If I take it off there will be 4 small brackets left behind but so far, in 2 months anyway, I have not taken it off. It works too well.
Here's a pic of a memphis shades on my softail with the wide glide front...........I think it looks good, Alot of folks have asked where they could get one cause they like the look
I have an 07 WG and also spent a good deal of time checking into windshields. I finally decided to get a handlebar bag instead. It doesn't block all the wind but it does change the airflow over the bike. I get more of a down draft in the face with the bag on, instead of just a steady blast to the face. My head also gets a lot less buffeting and itgives me a place to carry stuff. The one I bought is the Kuryakyn Grand Tour.
That is the one I bought. It helps alot and no turbulence behind it. It looks like it won't help as much as a higher one, but it makes a big difference. I leave it on all the time. The C Clamp is great. Off and on easily.
Rode 240 miles on freeways in some rain and it definitely helps quite a bit.
Keep hearing somwthing about the taller ones giving dudes a problem, Keep seeing windshield that everybody has cut down. Seen one on a bike on the showroom at the dealer. Was wondering about it. I'm a poor excuse with all my riding years of not ever trying a windshield or a geezer glide.
