Default Screamin' Eagle 103

So when I get my Dyna I'm gonna have the 103 Stage II kit put right on. If I'm already spending the money on that, and have a few extra bucks to throw in what else should I be getting? I would hate to have them do this just to findout I'm not reaping the full benifits becuase I forgot to upgrade something else, which would be cheaper to have them do, and be covered by the warrenty, if I have it done when I buy the bike.

The kit comes with a stage I filter and slip-ons. Are they any good? Should I get a 2-into-1 right away? A more free flowing air kit? They will be Dynaing and remaping anyway, might as well add what I can now if there is anything "essential" that I am missing, or is the 103 SE stage II kit include everything that I need to boost the power without dropping thousands more in and going to 110 ci?

I'm talking additions in the houndreds of dollars range, not the thousands.

Thanks

2-1 no questions asked! they are awesome! every person that i have talked to loves theirs... I am waiting for V&H to come out with their black line to see what else they have with the power chamber (give the 2-1 performance and the looks of duel pipes)... a nice set of shocks to hold that power to the ground! you should see about putting a 180 on the back right away!

What would be involved with a 180 on the back? Is the fender and swingarm already large enough? I love the way the SBob looks, but you're right, that dinky 160 on the rear is a little sad looking. My current Suzuki has a 180 and that seems a good size. Is it just a simple matter of buying a new wheel and tire? Any idea on $ for that sort o' thing?

Check these 2in1 pipes out.

Hope when they do yer 103 at the dealer they change the cams out too or you will not notise much difference.
If yer bike was broke in, I'd say go with a Indy build.

Hey Herr Monk

H-D has a kit that will put a 180 on a Dyna, includes the Dunlop tireand every thing needed. List is under $300. I saw it in the 08 Accesories catalog. No changes to the swingarm. Looks like a pretty good deal. Kinda wishin' my Low needed a new tire already.

Yeah, 180 right away then. I'm pretty sure that the stage II 103 kit comes with new cams. Was looking at it and install instructions last night (not that i'll be doing it myself). There is a stage I, maybe that does not come with cams? or you suggest different cams than come with the Stage II SE kit? Because I am 99% on this, the stage II comes with new, high performance cams, as well as new clutch spring and a few other performance related things.

HELL NO do not buy the kit!!! just do a search on the forum there are step by step directions how to do it... you only need the tire! I had to file down my bolts just a bit to fit it but that is all! looks sick!

Sorry I don't know much about that particular kit, but just from a hot-rodding perspective, shouldn'tbetter-flowingheads be part of the build?

You are doing right by having this work done from the start, it will save you time and money. I did the SE slip-ons, air cleaner, and download first, then after 1500 miles teh big bore kit. So I ended up paying for another oil change and download. Also, I lost out on teh 20% discount my dealer offered on parts in the first month. Oh well.

I am very happy withmy install. The 103 is definitely the sweet spot between performance and money compared to the 110 c.i.kit. I would have loved the bigger engine, but it was about three times the cost and not three times the performance gain.

As for other things to consider, first would be an exhaust. I had the slip-ons already or would have gone with the Vance & Hines 2-1. I am happy with the look, sound, and performance of my slip-ons though, and it will raise fewer questions concerning the warranty. According to my engine builder, I may have only seen a few more HP with teh better exhaust anyway, so why lose the money I already spent and spend another $600 on the 2-1? If you do go with the better exhaust, the dealership that sells them will probably still honor the warranty, but not necessarily a different dealership.

The kit will come with the SE air cleaner, which is enough. There are A/Cs out there that may technically be better, but doubt you will notice the difference on this engine. Save your money.

As for cams, the kit comes with a performance 255 cam. Use it and save your money. A lot of people suggest the 211 or 203 cam, but according to my builder these are for the TC88 engine, not the TC96, so Harley developed the new one.

My bike ran great after the install, but I did add a Power Commander III (PCIII USB) digital fuel processor. The new bikes run too lean to meet EPA regs. This will allow you to get the ideal air/fuel ratio, it will run better with a bit more power, and will not run as hot. Unfortunately, Power Commander did not have exactly the right map for my bike since my exhaust was different, so I will have to pay a goodly sum of money to have it tuned properly. Unless a dealer sells the PCIII, they will want to use a SE Race Tuner, which is a bit more expensive and may still void a warranty. I dida stealth PCIII install myself, and can remove it if warranty is an issue. I installed a similar unit, the Cobra Fi2000r O2 H-D on my wife's stock FXD, and it runs very well. More plug and play and less expensive, just less adjustable.

So, consider an exhaust and maybe a fuel processor, and enhjoy the ride! They are more extensive mods, like heads, but they are obviously more expensive. I plan on doing these after my warranty expires. By then I will be bored with my bike and ready for a change anyway!
