Is it possible to put a wide glide tank and instrument cluster on a standard dyna glide? I also wonder if it is possible to put a different style head light on a dyna glide. Pardon my ignorance I am just pondering my customization possibilities.
Im Not sure what year bike you have . But I put an 07 Wideglide tank on an 03 Superglide It really wasn't that hard but I had to cut the rear 2 side tabs of the tank and use the top tab and just drilled and tapped a hole in the backbone to line up with the top tab. There is a few other things that you would need like a center consol, Fuel gauge , Speedo( You may be able to use your old one???) Headlights are also doable.
I am putting a wideglide tank and dash on my 07 lowrider, I got an imaculate dealer take off tank on ebay for 500.00, got a new dash console on ebay then ordered the rest through Pike Peak HD. They were great got a speedo from the moco and had it calibrated to my mileage, new steering head lock, made a harnes to plug straight into my stock set up, matched my keys to my new ignition shipped to Australia for half of what I would have paid here. Great guys to deal with, emailed and faxed 20 odd dealers in the US and only these guys wanted to help. So yeah mate it can be done
I am in Australia and I got the gear in the US, I did realise it was and 05 and I have seen 05 tanks on Ebay as well. I cant see you having a problem at all just look at what r racing has done to his ride
Just finishing up my conversion. I have an 01 FXD and wanted to put a wideglide tank on. The parts that work as stratight bolt on's are 96-2003 tanks will swap. 93-95 may even work as well. I just picked up a beautriful 95 tank and will be trying it this weekend.04-05 the tanks changed a bit (stretched) so a straight bolt on for those years need the same year tanks.
As for console and electrics. Many ways to go. You can leave the warning lites up on the riser clamp ( a few companys make riser clamps with the sockets built in). Or you can take the route I'm going which is wire your existing harness into the wideglide console. Anyway it's one of those things where you say "why am I doing this?" or
"I like what I'm doing." Here's a pic of my progress so far. I still have the FXD speedo hooked up (running both!).
