Default tank differences on 06+ dynas

does anyone know how the gas tanks compare for the latest dyna models (fxdl, fxdc, fxdb, fxdwg, fxdse)?
I'm not interested in the center fill tanks.

in other words - I think all the tanks list out at 5.1 gallons - but are they the same?? (service manual pics would probably be a good reference - but I have a 2005 manual)

in 2005 the wide glide tank was different than the fxdl tank, there was no bob yet.

do any models other than the fxdwg sport a 5" speedo, including the fxdse?

OK - one more since I'm asking - I know a paint set from a 06 fxdwg will not fit a 05 fxdwg - the fenders are much different - however - any chance the tanks are the same?

For anyone that cares where this is going - I'd like to mate a FXDSE dash panel to a 2005 wide glide tank - wondered if there is any hope.

Thanks in advance.

The panel schould fit. Its the width of the tank that is different I think. The Wide Glide, Custom and Fat Bob have a 5.1 and the others are a 4.8.

the 08 fxdse used a lowrider/streetbob tank... not a fatbob tank like the FXDC,FXDF, and FXDWG...
in 07 the FXDSE uses the superglide tank with the center-fill gas cap like you currently have....

what you are gonna want to do is buy an 05/04 lowrider tank and then you can put a FXDSE, FXDL, OR FXDB dash on it....

do you have a carb or injection... this makes a difference...

the tanks are essentially the same but the fuel hole is different for injection vs. carb.
the tanks have the same shape in 05 as in 06-08 but the location of the mounting brackets may be different (I am unsure of this).

If you are carbed you need an o4-05 tank so as not to need to buy a Piegel kit to mount your petcock.

thanks for the reply rounder.

I have a 05 wide glide tank to replace my 05 superglide tank - so that part is firm - main goal is to move the speedo but at the same time I want to limit the cash loss.

I know the LR tank would have been a better fit - but I'm doing this without a repaint - found a WG tank the same color as I already have.

all 04-05 dyna tanks support FI - so that's not an issue - just need to move the fuel pump.&nbsp\\;

The dash is another issue all together - yes I can buy all the WG dash parts - including the speedo and indicators, but I was hoping for a cheaper way out - get a fxdse dash - pop my 4" speedo and indicators in - and be done with it. I can deal with the wiring.

I guess that the fxdc and fxdf also have a 5" speedo, same as a WG?&nbsp\\; If so - those dashes don't buy me anything over the WG dash - that's why I was wondering about the fxdse dash.&nbsp\\; Now I understand why the fxdse dash has a different part # for 08 - thanks for enlightening me on that one.

J&P cycles part # 560-013 for your speedo.

I believe there are different part # for FI and Carb tanks... If your new tank is FI you're good to go.. I am not so sure about the ability for a carb tank to be utilized for FI purposes ... When I was finding out costs on a lowrider tank for my bike (from the stealer) they did specifically ask if my bike was carb or FI... the carb may not have an access panel for the fuel pump not to mention different mounting for the fuel lines vs. petcock...
My research turned up 2 different tanks ...

Well that would be a bummer ... have to see when I get the tank ... maybe an expensive lesson.
All of the 04-05 tanks that I've seen on fleabay indicate they fit carb and fi. I assumed there were some fitting differences, but I'd be taking my fittings off my sg tank anyway - so no worries ... now you have me worried a bit.

turns out there is only one part # between FI and Carb tanks for 04-05 model dyna....
obviously there is still diff part # for the style of tank.

did not check to see if there is a different part # for say an 06-08 tank vs 04-05.

going to zanottis parts look up if I put in the part # I got from my dealer for an 05 lowrider tank, it comes back: FXDLI FXDB primer tank
so seeing that the FXDB did not exist in 04-05, from this evidence it seems they are the same at least from 04-08...
