Is there a way to find out if your bike is set-up to have this safety program kick in when it has to without having to stand for an hour sitting on the bike cooking up your family jewels? This was asked by a friend of mine who is certain that the harley shop where he bought the bike don't have a clue about what he is talking about. Is there any way one can set-up this system to operate without having to take the bike to the shop (and I mean an H-Dshop in Spain).... My friend sounds very concerned.[]
mr flyer it is to my knowledge that all the EFI bikes prior to the 07-08's have this out of the box, theres no takin it in to have this setup. its a fail safe from the factory so the motor dont melt down. in fact i ran into grid lock this morning due to sum cagers playin bumper cars and got stuck sittin and waitin and i live in Arizona, it was only 90 deg but after about 20 mins of barly moving my heat managment kicked in. i have never had my bike to the dealer i dont belive in them anymore, only to buy the bike never get service there!! so long story short if he has an EFI and im sure the 07 and 08's have the same or maybe its just the rear cly shut off but he should already have it. i even havea TFI tuner that just controls the fuel and after pipes and ac my bike kicked into heat mang. all the time after only sittin about 5-10 mins. in 70-80 deg weather. so now that i have the tuner added more fuel it doesnt kick in much. also let it do its thing when it kicks on, i used to twist the throttle to get the idle to smooth out but all your doing is fighting what its doing and creating more heat. so let it do it when it kicks in and once your back in the wind it will kick off. sumtimes ive restarted to get it to reset sooner but its not really nessicary(sp). im no expert and most of what ive said was told to me or read, but i think your buddy needs to find a indy shop and i dont think he has anything to worry about. if its doing it alot then he might want to get a tuner to get those temps down heat is not your motors friend but im sure you knew that.
If he owns a Sert there is a box you check and it turns it on.. All the bikes come out of thecrate with it set to off.... You have to take it in to the dealer or hook up your sert and lap topto activate it.
trotter are you sure cuz i have no sert, no downloadsjust a TFI fuel controller i installed and the dealer has had no fingers on my bike other than a tire change. ive had the heat mang turn on numerous times. how could this be if its turned off stock??? besides all it does is just add fuel to cool it down, plus whats the point ofit if it comes turned off, then theres no safe gaurd to an engine failure due to heat?? [>:]please enlighten me..... i was told that once your bike reaches a hot temp this kicks on. i recently read about the new setup that actully turns the back cly off, but thats on the newer bikes.
The 06 has it from the factory but the 07's or 96 is diffrent ... I think airbourn350 used his Sert to turn his on or turn it off dont rember I'm sure he'll kick in.. But the 07's you have to turn it on... ( Except the baggers)
According to my owners manual (2008 FLHTCU) this can be turned on and off.
Ignition on, role throttle past fully closed, hold for 3 seconds ...... if the cruise control light flashes green, it s on. If it flashes red, its off. It will go between on and off when you do that sequence. I haven't bothered as of yet .... thats out of the manual.
I might have a look at it now though as my wife said she thought her right leg was going to catch on fire during the last ride.
