Default RE: FRAME WELD MISSING?

ORIGINAL: Spanish Flyer

Hi again Mudpuddle,
I am not saying that the lack of the rear weld is the cause of the knocking (read my original message...) I do say however that it is of very bad craftsmanship and welding practice & procedures to leave a two buttweld surfaces with an opening where rust can breed. Actually it is ilegal if you are dealing with safety related weldedjoints. Is it so difficult to finish welding it completely?...just an extra inch or so. I don't know what the rest of you guys will do, but I will try to seal it and paint it one way or the other. H-D might save a few minutes per frame by not finishing this weld, but to me that is not fair on us H-D owners.[:'(]
It's not two buttweld surfaces, the tube is all one, the front weld is where the foot peg mount bracket is welded to the tube. All this is is they welded the foot peg mount only in the front.

Default RE: FRAME WELD MISSING?

Hey, I don't know how many of you read my message stating that I had sorted the knockingsound or more like knocking feeling I got mostly on my right footrest (FXDC); It was all due to a looseengine rear rubber damper; once tightened everything is fine. Check pichttp://imageevent.com/wforest/dynasu...mp;s=0&z=4

So check all your mounts for a posible loose engine.... In my case it damaged the heat shield on the front header as you can see on the pic.

And as for the welding of the footrest supports I still think (and know) that welding only the front side is not done according to proper welding procedures. C'mon guys, wouldn't you prefer to have the whole joint fully welded? maybe you like rust nesting on parts of your frame; and don't give me that Bu"#$#it about avoiding vibrations and resonance.. Bet you you fully weld it and you won't feel a snitch more of vibes. I dare not weld anything, since if the frame is not in a jig where you can control twisting, but I have purchased some paste that will seal that joint for good.

Behave yourselves..

BR,
Spanish Flyer
