Coming home from a ride and my 04 wide glide just went dead. Checked the fuses, battery, and such still nothing. The fuel pump was humming, the lights were on, but not even a click to try and start. Got a ride home in a trailer. Any one else had the same problem before I talk shop at the dealer?
Make sure battery has a charge first .
Then check your electrical conections, must be clean , dry , and tight .
A buddy of mine had a simular problem , while on a ride the engine light came on ,then no turn signals then no speedometer etc.
Thought after replacing the battery it had to be the stator .
Wrong after I checked the stator wires I found the conection to be corroded .
Clean them good and reconected them .
Now battery never goes dead and NO Problems .
my 2 cents...
Double check your fuses with a ohmmeter (ringing them out). Same thing happend to me last week. I had lights and pump but nothing when I hit the starter button. I rechecked with the meter and found the bad fuse. I think it was the fuse labled "battery". It is kind of hard to tell by looking at the fuses if there blown.
I haven't got that far yet. On the road we replaced each fuse with a good one that one of the other riders had. That didn't work. All the fuses had some white corrison on them, so we cleaned them up, maybe too late. Thaks for the help
have youchecked the main circuit breaker? it's located behind the electrical (fuse) panel. you mentioned corrosion on your fuses, maybe the main c/b terminals are corroded, the copper stud has the starter wire and silver stud has the ignition switch/voltage regulator connected to it. the c/b usually resets but corrosion may be affecting it.
it is very common fora harley battery terminals to get loose, there may be enough power to turn the lights on and not turn the bike over, you should also check your terminals. just my 2c
