I would like to install these bags. For anyone who has done it, is it simple after the turn signal relocation? Looking at some Boss Bags, their website says the shock has to be removed to install a bracket for the Boss saddlebag. Not interested in doing that. Also, it doesn't explicity say on the Harley site, but are these detachable or permanent mount?
I bought the Harley bags when I bought the bike. I had to take it back several times to get them to fit without rattling. It was a pretty big job to get them right. They do detach in about thirty seconds. I also got the detachable windshield at the same time.
The difference is the Harley bags that you are looking at are permanently bolted to the bike, they are smaller and don't offer the top straps or the shoulder carying straps. The leather Pros are quick detach. I was torn between the Leather Pros and the Harley bags and went HD. Now I am ordering Barebacks for $140 to make the smaller lower quality bags detachable and kicking myself in the A$$ for not going with the Leather Pros to start with.
I put the HD bags on my 00 WG. Installed the left bag myself, and it was a pain in the a$$, and then some. Took the bike to a local indie shop for the right bag, and was gratified to hear their guys cussing up a storm installing that one.
Have to say, though, ... well worth the aggravation. Far superior to the under-the-seat cheapo leather bags I had earlier.
The shock does not have to be removed to install the Boss bags....Only the lower mounting bolt. It only took me about 45 minutes to mount both bags. I had the HD bags on my 05 and the Boss on my 06. I much prefer the Boss bags.
