It seems to me that the '08 fat bob may give an easy solution for wide glide conversion.Swap trees for fat bob trees (rake and trail remain the same). Get new wg axle, spacers and hub.Relace existing rim with wg hub. Havent done it yet. But I think thats the way im gonna go. Any thoughts?
I'm new to this forum. Been reading for a few weeks, and decided to sign up. Pretty cool site.
WS6..........sick ride Bro. REAL nice.
I agree it would be easier with Fatbob trees (19" rim vs. ?) little better continuity as far as leaving ridability alone. I already bought the WG stuff before the Fatbob came out.
I just looked at the 2008 specs and they list the rake and trail as the same for all the Dyna's except the Wide Glide. Are they the same? Is this correct? The 2008 Low Rider no longer has a 1 1/2* additional rake in the triple clamps? I know Harley only lists the rake in the steering head and does not list the additional rake in the triple clamps. You can see the difference in the trail on there site with a raked triple clamp on the 2006 modelshttp://www.harley-davidson.com/PR/MO...ion=familypage
Yeah, I would dig a 21" rim. Only its gonna bring the front endup an inch. (without the added rake of dyna WG trees) The Fat bob keeps the rake the same. In any case, Gonna do it this winter. will post pics.
later
Also keep in mind that the 21" has lower profile tire (shorter side wall)so the difference between the two is only about a half inch, if that much, from the axle to the street.

Not so sure about that Formula.
Need to compare part #s for the trees.
This below tells me the LR may still have the raked trees.
Look at the trail between the 2006 and 2008 Low Rider, compared to the 2006 and 2008 Street Bob's. Increased rake equals less trail. So just looking at the trail, you would think that all the 2008's have 1 1/2* raked triple trees (except Wide Glide). 2006 and 2008 Street Bob's has the same wheel base, but different trail? I'm thinking the information on Harley's website is incorrect.....And wonder what the actual rake is in the new Fat Bob...
Need to say a coupla things; FirstWS6 and Mud.........Those rides FRIKIN RULE. Diggin the rake on both and the raise onMuds' tank (not to mention the 2 wrap into one, and the tach!) Bottom line as far as I am concerened is that harley aint given any support outside thier licenced shops. (as always, but more now then ever) Its live and learn just like its been since the first bike I had. Real stoked that guys are here willing to share.
Theres a wealth of info here. Glad I stopped by.
UGGG. Now I know why I bought a wide glide. The forks/trees on my Street Bob were driving me nuts. I figured by the time I was done, I would have saved money and time buying the wide glide (I like the rear fender too).
Then the primary bearing and inner race went on my Bob. Got it fixed under warranty, and being afraid the bearing would haunt me forever, I traded the sweet girl in on the wide glide. I'm gonna miss that bike.
So for the non WG Dynas, we can use Wide Glide trees to add rake/width, and Fat Bob trees for width only?
And I haven't seen anyone mention tube length. Are WG tubes longer than other Dynas? Is it OK for us to use our stock (non WG) tubes when we swap trees?
RedBeard,
Tommay and Mudpuddle have wideglide tubes installed...I think they're a couple inches longer.
WS6 Formula and ManieHD Switched trees and used their own tubes.
I have found a place that sells the hub spacer I need to align the rotor and caliper using my stock 19 inch wheel.......also the kit comes with the needed axle spacers and even the fender spacers all in billet....... I'm kinda slowing up on changing my Dyna since in about another month or so I'm gonna be a grandpa....LOL I wanted to wait until I was 60 to be one of those guys but my youngest wouldn't listen and now at 55 I'm gonna have a grand daughter.... I will complete my front end by spring.....Winters are hell here !!!!
