Default Front End clunk

Well I am getting the front end clunk when I ride over bumps in a turn. I have seen this posted several times and was wondering what everyone has done to solve this issue. Do you do the whole "fall away" adjustment or simply torque the steering head stem nut more that the 55 ft lbs spec'ed by the service manual? If it just torquing the stem nut, should I raise the tire off the ground when doing this or not? KB

The stem nut should NEVER be over torqued as that could or would cause damage to the bearings and make for tight steering. It does sound like the nut is loose though, have you checked it? If that's not the problem, check the axle and brake caliper hardware for proper torque and alignment.

Tightened mine beyond spec. and it didnt seem to change much. Almost sounded like it was in the fork tube....like the dampner.

had two dealerships look at mine...didnt get it..one said it was the breaks, the other thought maybe the steering head bearings...wanted me to bring it in...finally, i really tightend my gas tank bolts..note: i couldnt get my tank to move but it evidently was loose as when i put about 80# of torque on the bolts my clunk left me...good luck

My jiffy stand also had the rubber piece way out of alignment. I could tell because when I would kick it back up it would clangwith a metallic soundinstead ofmaking a dull thud like it was hitting rubber.I looked at another Street Bob to see where it was supposed to be, then I scooted it back and rotated it to where it was supposed to be. I wonder why so many people have this problem? Where they not installed properly from the factory or does the rubber piece move over time?

I guessI better check my gas tank and make sure it is secure also.

FWIW, Low Riders have the rubber bumpersnapped on to the frame - not attached to the jiffystand itself. I have seen first hand, three new '08 Low Riders uncrated with the bumpers laying in the bottom of the crate and not attached to the bike. Once attached, they don't come off easily so I'm thinking they were not attached when shipped. I have also found new Low Riders sitting on showroom floors with no bumper installed so I'm not convinced that dealers are checking this when putting the bike through prep. (Makes me wonder what exactly the "dealer prep" fee actually pays for. Hmmmmmmmmm.....)
