RE: Just had my first ride ever on my first bike ever...
After 37 years of riding and over 200,000 road miles, with no training course or (knock on wood) any accidents with another vehicle, I always keep one thing in mind when I'm on the road ~ I am invisible to everybody else on the road. (All my 'wrecks' were due to recklessness, all a result of me riding a cruiser thru the twisties like it was a sports bike ~ I finally quite doing that )
RE: Just had my first ride ever on my first bike ever...
Glad to hear you had a safe ride and a good time.
Afternot beng ona bike for almost 30 years for the last 2 years I've been going around on a 250 Yamaha"just to see if I still could".
It's goodto hear you plan to take the MSF class. The key in this area is to sign up early in the year so you can get into an early class. In central Ohio I believe they opened state-run MSFregistration in early March for April classes.
Ride Safe!
RE: Just had my first ride ever on my first bike ever...
Chris, I bought my first bike this August....a Dyna, and did not even have a "learners" permit. (I trailered
the bike home).
Ihavesince completed a training course, and "graduated" to the second level motorcycle license,
but I did ride a few times before the course. The Dyna so far seems to be a great bike to learn on.
Congratulations, and ride safe.

Congrats on the new ride dude.
Just sayin - lot of us hear from lot of guys. The term "I took to it real fast" is typically dangerous dude. But you're right, with all your experience, we're wrong, you know you'll take the course....

Congrats on the new bike and the first ride and all the feelin's that go with it. No one here is down talking you. We all actually care about fellow bikers and they're safety..at's all. Just take it slow and easy and above all, don't put off that course. Times have changed and peoplewith cellphonesin cars and deer and drunks and obstacles and anything else that you never expect are are out to kill ya. Be safe and enjoy 'er.

My first bike (6 months ago) was a Wide Glide. I ignored advice to get a "starter bike" first. I'm glad I did. I learned on a big bike. It was not so hard because every time I got off of it, I couldn't keep my eyes off of it! I couldn't wait to climb back aboard.
Ditto on the MSF course. There are things you will not learn anywhere else. Quite possibly something that will save your life. Yes it is that friggin' serious.
I heard that the two most common accident periods are when you first start riding, followed closely by when you think you got it licked. Overconfidence is a killer.
By the way nine11c2good trick question.
All that said and done, congrats on your new mistress. Enjoy.

Grats on the bike man. My first time on a bike(02 FXD) was the 20 mile run from the dealerto my house. That was 3 months and about 1800 miles ago. I'm scheduled to take the safety course in 3 weeks. My advice, if you ride with other peeps, is to ride your ride and stay in your comfort zone. My buddiesare more than willingto back off the speed a bit when I ride with them. Riding with experienced riders is a plus.
