I'm installing a set of Kuryakyn forward controls on my 07 street bob, or rather I'm trying to. [:'(]
The stock shift lever (which the instructions say to re-use) does NOT fit on the splined shaft of the Kuryakyn assembly.
Kuryakyn tech support is useless. Some kid read the (wrong part) of the instructions to me and then went and asked someone else who says they've "never had anyone call with this problem" and suggested lubing it to make it slide on easier. They insist it should slide right on with maybe a little tap with my palm. I don't believe I could drive it on with a hammer.
I've tried greasing it, and prying the opening a little wider on the shift lever, but I don't think it's going on there. Anyone else run into this problem, and if so, what did you do to make things work? Do I have to buy a Kuryakyn lever (they say no, but I have little faith in them at this point).
I had the same issue when I installed mine and had forgotten about it until I saw this post. I was able get the shifter onto the spline but I could not get the bolt back through it that holds it on. What I did was go to the Hardware store and got a nice bolt that was slightly smaller in size with a matching washer and nut and attached the shifter that way. Nobody has noticed it, including me and I have had 0 issues with it after probably about 9 months of running it that way.

I'd have no problem with a smaller bolt if the shifter would go on at all. How the heck did you manage it? Sledge hammer?
I decided to bite the bullet and order a Kuryakyn shift lever (even though it burned my *** to do it). If that doesn't slide on there clean and easy, then I'm boxing up the whole damn mess and it's all going back.
Should have just bought the Harley one and had the dealer put in on. I'd be rolling by now. It's a lucky thing they're calling for rain the next few days, or I'd beso ticked I'd be climbing the walls.

I called Kuryakyn and complained.
They finally agreed to send me a new one, but shipped it thru their distributer.
The second one was no better than the first - they chrome the splines and the layers of plating add up.
I finally pryed it open and pounded it on with a hammer. Hope I never have to take it apart.

I never even mentioned it to Kuryakyn when I called. The only other issue I had was one of the bolts for the new linkage rod was the wrong thread for my application. But, I bought a kit for a 2006 bike because the 07 hadn't come out yet. However, they said they weren't aware of any differences at that point so they couldn't explain the thread problem. I just went and got one that fit from the hardware store. I found the Kuryakyn support guy I talked to very friendly and helpful. He even went down to their showroom to find a bike like mine (an 06FXD I'massuming)with the kit installed and called me back to better answer my questions.
Idon't remember having that much trouble getting the shifter on the spline but I remember deciding that I'd never get the stock retension bolt back through there. Even though I now havea washer and not on the bottom of the shifter, it still looks clean and is barely noticable. Like I said before, I had forgotten about it until I saw this post.
If you find that the Kuryakyn shifter works better, please pm me or repost here. If it fits properly, I'll probably go ahead and get one as well.
It depends on the bike and the look you are going for but, on mine, I still like the Kuryakyn kit way better than the plain-jane HD kit.
My controls went on fine until I got to the shift lever. It wasa snug fit but went on with a few taps from a hammer. I did find that the bolt did not want to go through the hole on the shifter due to the shaft not being notched enough. Got out the die grinder with cut-off wheel and notched it a little deeper. Everything is fine now.

How about that for an oxymoron? I thought custom parts were made to fit by definition.
