I was not aware that my stock lowrider came with cruise control, and I can't seem to shut it off[] And it did not appear 'till after my 1k service at the stealer...
So my guess it that it's somethng more along the lines of my throttle cable is snagging on something. It really only happens when I have been cruising at a pretty consistent speed, generally between 2.5k-3.5k rpms, then if I let off the throttle and it keeps going. I really don't like this, and would like to "shut off" this wonderfull new feature my tech no doubt intentionally installed. I get into trouble if I have to stop fast, pull the clutch and my engine revs to the limit [:'(].
Any advice? Is there an easy fix. I sort of thought it was happening last week, but was not sure what was going on. During a ride yesterday it got worse and very obvious. It drove me nuts on the way to work today.
So eitehr there is an easy fix to this, or I have to go back to the dealer and have them fix their mistake...
Try unscrewing the thumb screw which is located under the throttle. At this years ROT Rally, I picked up a small lever that attaches to the screw which is supposed to allow you to "turn on / off" the cruise control - sadly, it didn't work very well as it would either not lock my throttle in place or it was so tight that the throttle would reset itself to the 0 position when let go.
"Throttle friction adjusting screw"? Huh, who knew, I loosened it up, it was already pretty loose. I will see on the ride home how it goes, but I think the hangup might be else where. But speaking of the "Throttle friction adjusting screw" any of you use this thing for cruise control?
Okay, but like I said, it was already pretty loose, so I think the throttle cable is getting snagged somewhere else... Any ideas? I will know in a few hours when I head out... but if there else I can check before I hit city traffic that would be great. The problem was an an immobile throttle, but what feels like the cable itself sticking...
It seems odd that they would do anything at 1kmi that would effect the throttle, but I guess so.. I would try to snap the throttle a few times without it running and try to ID where its binding.. You probably already tried it, but short of taking it back to the dealer, I'm out of suggestions..
They should adjust all cables at the first service since they stretch the most when they are new. If it isn't the throttle lock, they probably just adjusted the throttle/idle cables too tight. You should be able to twist the throttle very easily (by rubbing a couple of fingers across it). When it is too tight, it will stick open... dangerous situation. Also, tight cables are more prone to break. Get them adjusted ASAP... my 2 cents.
