Hi All I have a 2006 Dyna Super Glide with Samson big guns 3's on it. For the past 9 month's or so they sounded great now for the past 3 weeks I get this tinny rattleing sound when I give it some gas and let off and it is driveing me nuts. I have checked everything I can think of and nothing is loose I have removed the pipes and the heat shield has no broken welds the only think I have changed was the nuts from the back of the pipes. The pipes came with nuts with nylon locking nuts and I did not replace the nuts with them I just used regular nuts could this be my problem???
Sound can be real tricky.
Could be itâs not your Samsonâs at all?
Just a thought. Sound dose travel.
I stated having a sound problem when I road
against the wind at higher speeds.
After a few weeks I figured out that my gremlin
bell vibrated so fast it made a strange sound
when conditions were just right.
So itâs kind of a warning for me that Iâm going
too fast for the windy conditions?
Strange for sure.
My little bro and myself both run Samson big guns 3's and they will come loose at the back mounting point. Mine came loose and so did my brothers. We went to stainless steel hardware and use a crush nut and a jam nut. Be sure to use the largest bolt you can. Nylon locking nuts will get hot and fail. Their is also a high temp. red thread lock that you can use. Red or blue thread lock is a must on just about every fastener on a Harley. Puts an end to the old days when stuff went flying off. But like twofish and bikerdog134 said other stuff could be going on.
i have bg3 on a dyna and if they stay loose to long all the welds will start to break. you might be hearing that on top of the nuts. vanes and hines have a strap system which seems to much stronger and more reliable then samsons.
my samson calibers had a rattle when i went to come to a stop found the nut had come loose around the front cylinder flange. but when i took the VH off they had a bracket on the front right under the engine that help with some of the vibration think the samson would be better if they did a fastener up at the front cause when i sit in neutral and rev the motor you can see that front pipe has a hole lot of vibration.
