I recently did my 10,000 mile service and have a leak on the primary darain plug..... Very slight but it leaks..... I think on my 5000 mile sevice some as hole crankend down the drain plug and F**ked it up.Of course they didn't do it, now that I bought the manual. I replaced the O' Ring it didn't look damaged. The Manual says x amount of tork. I had to put some chit on it to break it loose. Can I use teflon tape on the threads???? Will it Help stop the leak....?
I use teflon tape on my primary plug and my engine plug. Neither leaks at all and the engine o-ring was pretty thrashed looking at the last oil change. I'll put a new one on at the next change.
I fought an oil leak on my 02 Low Rider for weeks. Nothing major, just a pain in the ****. After pulling primary cover I noticed the drain plug was cross-threaded. I changed my oil a few times and it always went in smooth.
Held it straight and it realigned the original threads and stopped leaking.
I never use tape, or torque wrench, I better buy new O-rings. Never had any leaks in 20,000 miles.
Sounds like maybe the tech cross threaded the bolt. Fluid changers at the dealerships, are not generally expert mechanics (Jiffy Lube)
Can probably use thread tape or sealant, and make sure the bolt is threaded straight.

green, have you looked under the machine from the pipe side
and verified that it is the plug leaking??
Several folks on here have fought this issue
only to find out that the fluid was leaking
from the input shaft seal,
and runnin down to drip off the plug.
I thought mine was leaking...and I tried everything...turned out I had an inner primary seal leaking and the fluid was running down from behind and above the drain plug...I never noticed and just assumed the o ring was the problem.
mud puddle is on to something about looking at it from a different angle. on both of my bikes if I go to max amount in the tranny (24 ozs.) it tends to vent out and guess where it drips, from now on I fill to 22-23 ozs. Use new "o" rings when you can, cheap insurance.
