Default Engine guard help...

Hello all,

I am interested in adding an engine guard to my low rider. I don't have access to a dealer where I am at so I wanted to ask two questions:

1. Does the engine guard bolt into the same mounts as is used by the highway pegs? As pictured by the red arrow below.

2. If I install the engine guard, do I have to get rid of my current highway pegs and mount them on the engine guard or can I leave them in place?

Thanks for your help HDF'ers

The Harley engine guard for the Low Rider bolts onto the lower frame with 2 U bolts and uses an exisiting threaded hole on the upper tubes where they intersect. You can still use your factory highway pegs. they do not get in the way. You can also mount a set of pegs to the engine guard or a set of lights. It's about a 10 min. install. Don't forget Loctite.

I agree with Sammi. Easy install and priceless protection from the stupid things that might happen.

Sammi, Does your fork bag cut down on some of the wind coming up from under your bike? I have the same setup as you and wind buffeting is a problem.

I've replaced the fork bag with a windshield bag since the pic was taken.

Haven't felt any difference with or without it.

The buffeting is caused by the wing sweeping up your legs. I have forward and mid pegs on my Wide Glide. The buffeting is far worse in the forward leg position because the angle of the legs is slanted, as opposed to a right angle on mid pegs. Fork lowers would help most, but I don't like the look. I try to ride sans windscreen as often as possible. The buffeting is always there, but it is negated by the rest of the wind hitting directly from the front.

To me, the wind is all part of the experience; except in the winter when it's a major part of the misery. Then, it's windscreen ON! [8D]

Ditto to what Scott said about the stupid things that might happen. Yea verily do I speak from experience. As for simplicity of installation, it's a piece of cake.

good questions blade68.

I saw the engine guardinstalled on an 06 at the dealer with the Highway Peg Mounting Kit. So I put it on my 07.

Order it online from zanotti and make sure they have it in-stock. Or you will wait up to a month.

I have engine guards on my Super Glide that bolt into the holes for the highway pegs. What's nice about my guards is they havelower plates that jut out with holes where I installed highway pegs (Kurankyn with 2 1/2" extensions). The guard was on my bike when I bought it used, so I don't know the part number. I saw a guy's bike with the u-bolts and it looked butt ugly. PM me if you want to see a pic.
