Default Trimming Windshield

I want to trim my super sport windshield so it doesnt hang over my headlight. I am guessing I should tape where I cut and tape the foot of the jig saw as well? Any suggestions or warnings. I have faith in my ability to cut it just not sure if there is anything I should know about plexiglass.

Thanks Shawn

I've been looking into this. I guess you just mask it off...the good area so it doesn't scratch it, then cut with the jig saw. I was going to use a coping saw because I want to have more control. Then sand to match the rounded edge. Then use Methyl Ethyl Ketone (spelling) to "melt" the edge to make it clear. Only get the MEK where you need it...it will mark the windshield if you use too much. They say to practice on the scrap edge to get the technique down.

Google it and you'll find articles

mast the area you're cutting...fine jig saw blade....we use velcro on the jig saw base....edges can be finished off with a dremel tool with drum sander and a fine metal file....takes some time to do but will look as good as store bought..........BC

I traced the curve of the headlight onto a piece of cardboard, cut the cardboard to make the template.
Placed the template onto the windshield, marked it with a black marker.

Used a Dremel with the #561 Multipurpose cutting bit, no tape, but did protect the shieldwith blanket underneath to prevent scratching.

When finished with cut, changed Dremel bit to drum sander, finished off any rough cuts and edges, then hand sanded to a smooth rounded finish.

It took me about an hour tops, and I did practice a little on part I knew was going to be cut off. I had never done this before, and saw this link below. They also say to use a jig saw, but in my opinion, if you have a Dremel type tool, the bit was about $5, well worth it, and easy to do.

Almost forgot, the website I posted above, tells you to do it on the bike. I didn't do this, and glad I didn't.
I did it on a workbench, on top of a blanket, and it made a fair sized mess, shavings and dust. Just thought I'd mention that.

What he says ... ie use a dremel rather than a jig saw (where you run the risk of it catching = crack or jumping) ... a dremel carefully handled will do it, any wobbles can be sorted with sanding.
