I know 20lorider02 could care less, but on my FXDC with the touring shield. I tilted it forward on the top screws and added a laminar lip. The lip may not look KOOL, but I have no buffeting from the top of the shield. I put a bag on the bottom tree too, and that stopped much of the turbulence that came from off the top of the tank.
Maybe this helps someonenew reading this, as I learned about tilting the shield on this forum a few years ago, and am glad to pass the info on to others...tp
Helmets play a huge part in helmet buffet as well as windshield brand. I had a HD 18 inch QD compact and i threw the HD plastic in the trash basically and bought a Memphis Shades OEM replacement which was 1 inch taller and a bit wider that fit on the HD hardware. I get a little buffeting but its 80 percent less than i got with the one i bought at the dealer.
Very old thread resurrected a couple of times but obviously still of interest...
For some people this just never gets fixed. I don't believe there is a magic bullet for it. If you tend to ride slower then its less of a problem and hacking the screen around might help a bit.
In my own experience there is no fix. These barn-door screens cause something between annoying and near-fatal buffeting and are best simply avoided. Kinda why you see quite a lot on eBay.
Well I dont claim to be an expert or any type of scientist but when I went over 60mph on my fatbob the inside of my head felt and sounded like there was a Kangol hammer on the go!! ear plugs put a stop to this ..
the trick is to cut it down. if you have a 18" windshield you want to cut it down to 16 . you will have alot less buffeting. they are real easy to cut down. if you want to know tell me...they can be cut in 10 mins and you will think it was bought that way.
Well, I'll pick up the ball. I just cut mine down. it was pretty simple. There are several how-to videos on you-tube. Being OCD, getting the sides to blend with the existing edges was the biggest issue. I made a cardboard template from the top section then cut it vertically and made it wide enough to match up lower down. Cut it with a saber saw and filed it with several different files. Be careful not to cut too far in then come back out. It's a lot easier to file down a high spot than blend a low spot.
I also have the buffeting problem on my FXD. Never bothered me when I was a young lad but now it is bothersome. I have actually been considering a National Cycle Plexifairing for touring. It has hand protection and lowers. May also help in the cold Canadin fall. Ugy yes but may be a solution.
