Planning on adding some extra fog/spot lighting to my Dyna. Is it better to have them on the forks so they go in the same direction as the front wheel or on the frame somewhere so they point the direction the bike is going in. Wouldn't frame mounted give a better side view in corners, more like a car while still helping the front beam in a straight ?
Appreciate info from anyone who has fitted theirs to the frame or even better tried both.
i am sure you saw it but here is mine https://www.hdforums.com/m_2370526/tm.htm
just scroll down and you can see it... the higher they are the better, my brother on his sporty we did a clamp on the outside of the forks... works just as well
here is a pic of my brothers sporty... sorry i had to scan it... they are on the outside of the forks those are not turn signals next to the headlight those are the fogs
Once you're riding the bike the lights are going to follow the front wheel whether they're frame or fork mounted because you're turning by leaning the bike. For maximum lighting I recommend that they be mounted high and fairly wide apart. You'll get a broad swathe of light that will also keep the corners lit up when the bike's leaned over. I had H-D auxillary spots mounted on my softail. They were easy to fit, looked great and worked really well.
That makes sense ... I've just bought a set of these and think I'll follow Joe's design and hide them between the forks unless I can get them to fit in front of the screen without looking naff ...
Mounted in front of the forks will work fine on straights. If you want to keep the corners lit up, you'll want them wider apart.
Btw, an H4 HID conversion kit for the headlight would also give you a lot more light. Kits are getting cheap these days and the ballasts are quite small.
not always true... depends on the light... mine are flood fog lights they light up EVERYTHING corner and all basicly there is a line strait to the right and left off the forks... if they where just driving lights i would agree then the beam would be a strait shot. mine lihgt the corners sides of the road and all in front! Love em!
