I'm looking at buying a front heat shield off of a SE dyna to replace mine. The SE has stock forwards and doesn't have the indentation for the mids that mine has. I'm wondering 2 things. First, do I have to remove the entire pipe to change the shield on it or can I swap it with the pipe attached? Second, does anyone know for sure if a shield from an 07 SE dyna will fit properly on a stock 07 FXDC pipe?
I'd go and check things out for myself on the bike but it's pouring rain for the 3rd day in a row and I don't want to melt when I go out to my barn/shed where the bike is. I can probably get my dealer to verify the fitment but I'm sure some of you know the answer about removing the pipe or not.
We are 99% surea wideglide shield will do the trick. I don't see why the SE shield won't work unless the pipes are a different size or, for some reason I wouldn't find hard to believe, the exhaust on the SE is designed a little different. I've got an email out to the parts manager at my stealer. I'll see what he has to say.
I have a Wide Glide front heat shield on my 06 Super Glide and it fits. Same exact shield as my stock one, except (as you said) no indentation. Looks much better. The shields are easy to change with the pipe still mounted.

Yeh, I'm sure a WG shield would work but I've had no luck finding one. This guy is selling the pipes and shields with 100 miles on them for 30 bucks. To save on shipping, though, I may just get him to send me the shields.
I just changed my pipes (not stock but Rinehart) and they did not have the indention and they cleared the mid mounted peg fine.
And your point is???? lol - just kidding.
Straight pipes should fit okay with mids anyway I believe. We are talking about stock pipes/shields with forward controls though. Some of us are trying to get rid of the dent left where the mids were.
