Whine on decell
That would be signing to you in nuetral, with the clutch out........... well actually growling.
If its just a whine, I don't think you should be too concerned (not my bike, though).
Is you your tranny oil pretty fresh? Is it shifting okay?
I can assure you, you and the rest of the world will know if your primary bearing is going bad...... It will talk quite loudly to ya

Check rear wheel alignment and belt tension first The primary bearing should make noise in neutral clutch out and usually does not whine more like metal on metal
I hope you misquoted yourself in your statement, or you have been to the Harley dealership with this noise and they lied to you, and told you it is "normal".
Any metal to metal, or grinding sound, or growling in nuetral with the clutch in or out is indicating a transmission failure.
Metal to metal noise in nuetral with the clutch out is indicative of a failing/failed (bad) primary bearing, and the noise may vary, and come and go, but will only get worse. My bike made it to around 16,800 before the tranny totally trashed itself. Then the dealer admitted I had a problem and ended up putting all new guts in the transmission. There was no bearing or race left where the primary bearing was supposed to be.
Get that bike to a dealership and have the noise documented (did I say documented). Then take it to an Indy with a good repuation and let them listen to the noise (probably won't even charge you). If nothing else just let your buds listen to it.
Don't ride a washing machine / ride a Harley Davidson with a quiet transmission
