Much respect for doing this. Keep it up. Those people are idiots. Sorry if this is off topic, but someone has to take a stance against these idiots...good for you for stepping up.
Counter Protests Counter protests are generally organized to provide an opposing viewpoint at sites that Westboro pickets. In some cases counter protesters have lined up and turned their backs on the Westboro pickets or encircled them in a ring, explaining that they want to symbolically shield the community from the hate. This has become frequent with Westboro's picketing of the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq; veterans' associations and biker groups such as the Patriot Guard have led the counter protests in recent months.
I saw that, and that's how I came across the little blurb about the Patriot Guard riders......I hate to post something that has to do with politics, but this is a group that posts on this site, and I wanted to show respect for them takinga stand.
The Patriot Guard does not "protest" OR "counter-protest" anything!!!
The Patriot Guard stands with and in support of the family and friends of our Soldiers in a time of difficulty and pain. We are there at the invitation of the Soldier's immediate family. We do not confront or even acknowlege the presence of another group. We are shields only and at no time engage in "protest" OR "counter-protest".
I am also aP.G.R. member and it could not have been stated better than the way that Kiltiemon put it. we really don"t give a damn if W.B.B. is there or not we are there at the request of the family, and to show our respect for the fallen hero.
I consider it an honor and a privledge to be able to show the family, and his community how much a soldier who has given his all is respected, loved and honored for giving the ultimate sacrifice. To let them know they are not alone.
I wish there was so much more I could do for the families, but there isn't. I know the tense moments of not knowing what is going on and learning the meaning of no news is good news..... my heart aches with each DoD announcement for the families who heard the knock on the door that each Blue Star family dreads.
As for the WBC.... it is those very soldiers, my son included, that gives them the right to stand there and protest.
What you give to others returns 10 fold..... in thier case, after the judgement it returned 11 million!
We had a welcome home ride here in Az for a wounded fighter. We had roughly 100 bikes show up. He rode on a trike to his high school, did the coin toss and got the game going. We rode out onto the track as his escort. He was so overwhelmed. And you are right. The Guard does not protest. We just respect the men and women who serve and have served.
