Default Black Denim

I have just ordered an 06 Street Bob in black denim.

Just read an article by some english guy who claims that the paint fades just like your favorite old jeans - anyone know if this is true???

Yes, that is what it's supposed to do. It will wear in areas where you pants etc have
contact with it. Mine got shiny where I keep my chaps rolled up behind the sissy
bar.
You cannot wax it or remove any of the wear marks either. But I will add it is very
easy to care for, BUT, there are only specific cleaners you may use on it.
Somewhere the HD Service Bullet is posted on this and other sites concerning care of
the paint job.
I would suggest you read the memo on care of the Denim Black paint.

I just took my tank and fenders off this weekend so I can get it painted a normal color.
I just have this need to wax my ride !

So, are you sorry you got black denim? did it take a long time to wear out the paint, how many miles?, and did it wear nicely, or was it ugly?

Not sure about WillieC, but I am still comfortable with the Black Denim. I ordered the Street Bob because I love the "retro" look and as far as I am concerned, the black denim paint fits it like a glove (faded or not).

I figure I can always do what WillieC has done and get a new paint job if it causes me any grief.

Hi Chewy,

I am not sorry I got Denim Black at all. I change and work on my bikes all the time.
Actually they did not have a color I really was wild about on the 06 Dyna line. Maybe
the anniv edition because it is really unique. Not gonna see many of those beauties
on the road. If I was a wealthy man I would probably have two tank and fender sets
for variety.

Actually the Denim Black was in excellent shape. After I got the tank and fenders
off I expected to see all kinds of imperfections, but there were none and I am not
gentle with my bikes. I washed the fenders off with dish liquid and they look new.
Even up under where stone and gravel hit was like new and I run some dirt roads
up to my camp. Plus it has to be the easiest paint to care for I have ever had.
The only thing I noticed was that it got a bit shiny where I carried my chaps rolled
up on the back fender for the 3k miles. But had there been clear coat there it would
have been scratched I am certain.
I have 3k on the bike so I cannot speak for how it would have looked after a few years.

The Denim Black looks cool especially in low light but I do not think it looks as good
in direct sunlight.
My reason for changing is that I want a unique color and I like to keep it waxed,
shiny and protected. (although when I washed the fenders off with hot soap and dish
liquid the water beaded up like I had just been waxed it.

Just my decision to change while it is in for the winter. I guess I am one of those
odd ***** that likes to have something unique and not a cookie cutter look.
Who knows I may go back to D.Black sometime.
It is no big deal to paint the tank and fenders.

I could live with the D.Black though because everyone who sees it likes it and thinks
it is very, very cool. I do not think anyone ever complained about it.

All I know is that I do not want it painted black any more.

WillieC,
How hard was it to take off the tank and fenders? Also, what color are you going with?

I love the Denim black look, but I also like making the bike your own.

HulaBears,

Tank and fenders were very simple to take off.
The rear fender is only held on by the two bolts on each side where
you would mount detachable saddle bags.

Front fender of course is only four bolts.

Gas tank, two bolts, I only had about a gallon of gas in it so it did not
leak any out when I cut the transfer hose in the front. There is a quick
disconnect for the fuel line. I did have to remove the connector to get
the gas gage off the tank.

I am not sure what color yet Cannot decide

Who knows I may put it back together and keep the D.black.

Have months of winter WX to decide anyway.
