Thanks for all the comments on my question. Did they pick the Wide Glide because it sold the least? My husband loves his bike. An aniversary 2003 WG. He keeps saying how glad he is that he has his and was shocked when he found out they discontinued the WG. He's only had it for 3 months but everytime we are finished riding for the day and he closes the door on it he says "D@m I love that bike" He'll have it for a very long time. I bet he sat on hundreds of bikes. He sat on this one and that was it.
I'm not a huge fan of the fat bob, but your bike looks soooo much better with the big radius pipes....
When I'm ready for a new bike, I'll have to look at the softail custom if the moco doesn't come up with something cool for us dyna people. My wife said I should teach them a lesson by getting a Gold Wing... I almost filed for divorce...
The Wide Glide was always the closest thing Harley had to a "chopper". With the new Rocker, people that want a chopper type bike will get the Rocker instead of the DWG. Alright by me...In ten years people will look at myFXDWG and say "cool. remember those"
i love my wide glide but it would be a lot easier for them to sell if you could find half as much aftermarket support as the softail has. not to mention the dealer ship walk in and look at the wall softail has all kind of different parts look for the Dyna section which usually consist of one or two small rows of parts. gets to be a real pain having to modify parts to get them to work.
Ya know with all the hype about the new bikes this year, I have yet to see even one Rocker in person. My dealer has at least 5 FatBobs on the floor now but none of the other garbage they call the Rocker.
Anyway with all that out of the way, I'm looking at the WG thing like this. For the same, sometime less money, you can get a Softail Custom. The trend in Harleys is towards the Softail family, even if the only one that looks hot rod like is the Custom. The rest look like mini baggers waiting for a fairing IMHO. The MoCo is looking at the trend and going with it. Why offer a higher dollar Dyna when they can just steer more people towards the Softails?
Personally I love my WG. I might have ended up with Softee but I took a little time and test drove a few types before my purchase. I have to say I love the riding position and the overall look of the WG. I have a few mods done to it but it handles like a dream and I can't even tell when the missus is on the back. I will be sad to see it go but like it has been said ..... I GOT MINE.....
I just bought my husband a wide glide for his birthday this year. He had never rode before, but he had been saying for the last five years that he wanted a Harley. I kept saying "no" thinking he was doing the midlife crisis thing. Finally, I gave in. I wanted to surprise him but I didnât know which bike to buy. I explained to the dealer that he was a new rider and that he was 6â3 and I wanted a bike he would be comfortable on. They suggested the wide glide. He was floored when they pulled the bike up to the house. Best bike I could have bought him. It is perfect for his size and he loves the look. (He is always saying, "did I tell you how much I love this bike") We wonât have to worry about purchasing another one for a few years, but Iâm hoping by the time he is ready for a new bike they will have brought the Wide Glides back.
