Went to HD last weekend and they were also confused about why the Wide Glide will no longer be in production for 2009 or forever. What is this about. Anyone have any idea why this is????
I asked my dealer what was going to replace the WG and he pointed to the new Fat Bob and said, "There it is".
They are two distinctly different styles and I just don't see how one can replace the other.
Couldn't agree more. Just a wild guess on my part, but I wonder if new riders don't like the WG/Dyna shake and go with the Soft Tail because they think it's smoother. Maybe sales are down... I like my WG's shake at idle and the way it feels on the road. Don't like being totally isolated from everything - if I wanted total isolation I would have bought a metric or just driven my cage. To me, motorcycles should have a personality and not feel like a sewing machine or an electric motor - not saying softies do at all, just like a bit of "discomfort". I've always loved the Wide Glide from the moment I first saw one - many years ago, can't remember now...sad to see it go.
Hell maybe they'll offer a crated wideglide frame that you can buy separately to build your own wideglide. It seems like a bunch of they guys on this forum wouldn't mind that. Including myself
I concur 100% ! My dealer told me that since the FXSTC is being sold again, there's not much draw for the Wide Glide. The softy comes with the king/queen seat, and a 200 rear tire for the same price.[&:]

I personally don't get it. I love my WG, the only way I wouldn't have a WG is when I move to a bagger.
I agree....it has to do with sales numbers. The Softtail Custom has taken it's place.
damn shame, IMHO. I hated seeing the heritage Springer go last year, but the MOCO is a business, and they have to make moves for the strength of the company.
I'd personally like to see the MOCO go back to only 3-4 models being offered. It would cut the overhead back, they could offer them at a lower price, and the owner could modify the bike to fit their personal style.
That's what I did with my Superglide.....raked and lowered.
I really doubt anyone outside the MOCO's corporate office knows for sure, but sure looks like a slow death for the WG - all we know for certain now is that the 105th Anniv WG is all we get this year. The future? Anyone's guess.
