Well, had my first parts failure but at least it was while I was standing still. The peg mount on the right side of my Kuryakyn forward controls gets loose now and then. So, last time I tightened the heck out of it. Was just cleaning up the bike a little and noticed it loose yet again. I went to tighten down on it and with hardly any pressure at all, the bolt snapped. I guess I'll have to try and get it drilled out of the peg mount or find a replacement. Problem is, I have a ride I want to join on Sunday and I can't get it fixed or replaced that fast. A friend of mine has a spare set of HD highway peg mounts that I used to use before I got forward controls. Didn't need them anymore so I gave them back. Can't get in touch with him and I'm wondering if anyone of you out there with Kuryakyn Deluxe forwards on your dyna used to run and maybe still have some HD highway peg mounts. I'm trying to figure out if the peg mount (the cylinder that bolts to the mounts on one side and connects to the actual peg on the other end) on the HD kit will fit onto the Kury kit for temporary use?
Man, I love Kury's designs, but they really use some cheap-*ss crap material. I replaced the bolts on my switchblade pegs because they kept gettting loose and moving out of the angle I wanted. Finally I stripped them out.
I managed to use wedge a one size larger hex in the head with a hammer, and got them out without drilling - took some time, but it worked. Kury sent me 2 new ones at no charge, and the new ones were stainless, tough compared with the ones that came with the pegs. Shame...
Bit of red loctite and they won't budge now.
I would send you anything I have, but I did give away my stock pegs too after changing out the mids. Good Luck...
Appreciate it. I'm not looking any parts - just trying to figure out if I can borrow a HD peg mount from my buddy and make it work until the new one comes in next week. Dealer is having their annual toy ride Sunday and I'd like to take part if I can. I'm sure they could help me get something to work but they are 65 miles away. I think I can get something to work temporary from his spare parts - at least I hope I can. Kuryakyn didn't even offer to replace mine for free. But, I didn't press it since it's most likely my fault it broke anyway.
Pulled some last minute "engineering" and decided to risk re-threading the mount to fit a right-hand bolt after finding that I own what's left of half of a 3/8's reverse thread bolt in the eastern half of North Carolina. It worked pretty well - enough to get me on that Toy ride tomorrow that I've looked forward to since last year.
Just posting this in case it comes up under a future search. I also found that the bolt on the HD highway peg mount will not fit through the hole on the Kuryakyn forward control kit.
It's gonna be a chilly morning but I'll be on my way to the ride. At least it's forecast to be a sunny day with 0% chance of rain.
