I've got an 07 FXDL and absolutely love the combination of mid controls and highway pegs. My only "wish" is that the highway pegs were about an inch further out than they are. (Farther forward) I've seen that HD has an "Adjustable" Highway peg mount kit for $104 and I'm wondering if they actually give you more reach or ? Looking at the picture it almost looks like they're just using one bolt in the plate that holds the arm for the highway pegs and I'm wondering if there's some option with the existing hardware or a 3rd party product.
My riding buddy has the adjustable ones and it uses one bolt and a set screw that fit into three holes on the back of the plate that bolts onto the frame all the adjustment you get is up and down not farther out. I dont know if anyone makes a different one.
I've thought about getting some ź" plate and doing cutting/drilling/tapping to extend my highway pegs - similar in fashion to the Kury forward control extension kit.
i had a set of adjustable highway pegs on '08 streetbob.i wanted to bring them closer and out so i got a set of kuryakyn lockable offsets. they have a male mount for existing mount and female peg mount to accept peg both rotate 360 degrees you can set pegs forward or back up down upto 2" with the set i have.they move peg out also 1.5", gives clearence for legs around motor.keep in mind with a single bolt mount on your existing highway peg mount its possible for these to rotate with enough pressure. i had 22000 miles on mine when i removed and installed forwards, and they never moved but it's possible.
Thanks guys! You don't have a picture of that Kurkuryn setup by any chance do you? If I had one more inch forward I'd be in great shape. As it is this bike is great for long rides . .so much better than the metric cruiser I was riding.
I had the adjustable and they were too long for me on the shorter of the two settings. I am 5'10". The standard Low Rider set was perfect for me, so the HD adjustable might fit you perfectly.
I have the non adjustable HD ones (same as low riders but chrome) and they actually have 2 settings. If you look closely at the mounts you will notice the holes are not centered in the mount.
If you take the peg and peg mount off, take the highway peg mount off the bike, Flip it over, then reinstall it will move the pegs further away and down a bit.
I had mine in the farther away postion at first and it was to much of a reach for me. I flipped them around and they are great now.
I believe the low riders come with them in the closer postion but not positive.
EXCELLENT! I am going to get some caffeine in my blood stream and then head out to the garage to see if that'll work. I don't need to much and could easily live with the pegs where they are, but if I can find a free solution. (I'm 6' 2" - but my inseams are only 30")
Well I started taking them off to "reverse" them and found that there was already an additional "upper" hold that wasn't being used and was covered with a decorative point. Pivoting the peg down to use the second hole added about 2-3 inches of additional "reach". I've had it out for a short ride and I'm not sure if it's too much or if I like it. My legs aren't straight, but they're alot closer to straight than I'm used to. Maybe a week or two will let me know better.
I was surprised that there weren't bolts to hold these on but a knurled ****. (and the knurled **** was a self tapping bolt). I wonder if HD makes a special tool for taking these on/off?
Anyway, thanks for all the advice, I have some adjustments I can play with now.
