Default Chrome Hand Control Kit Installation

OK guys, just purchased the above kit (part # 56860-07). I am pretty well mechanically inclined and have never brought my scooter in for anything (done it all myself). This looks kind of intimidating, though. Has anyone installed this kit on their own? If so, any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry no real help. I have not quite got that far, yet. But I would suggest if you're thinking about braided brake line, clutch cable, throttle cables, grips, etc. Now is the time, while everything is apart, anyways.

arkie, if you are mechanically inclined,
you should not let this one intimidate you.

I recommend a service manual,
as well as a parts manual.

There are some verytiny clips involved so
keep an eyeball peeled when dealing with these.

I always keep a couple extra ones on hand just in case
one gets away. They are real cheap to have in your parts stash.

Read the manual and you will not have any issues.
Take note of the part about the frontlight
switch disassembly/reassembly.

edited to add -
that should read -

Take note of the part about

the front

*brake*

light switch disassembly/reassembly.

Where did you pick up the kit from, I am also looking to purchase this kit and some of the sponsors on here have some real good prices. Good luck with the mods, mojo

Like Mud said, a manual and the instructions it comes with will help. It is a learning experience. I am an aircraft mechanic so since the bike is a whole lot easier (and smaller)to work on than a C-5 Galaxy, It wasn't too bad, just watch the small items like screws and clips. I did the braided clutch and throttle cables at the same time. Makes a world of difference in looks. Sounds like you can do it to me!

Thanks forthe votes of confidence! I hadn't really thought of the braided lines and such but I will look into it now. I guess when it gets cold I'll start on the project!

Mojo, got my kit from Chicago Harley-Davidson.

I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.

Go to an auto parts franchise (Auto Zone, Advance Auto) and spend $25.00 on a vacuum pump. They work wonderfully bleeding the brakes. They are a bitch without one.

Like Mud said, service manual is the first thing you should buy. Definitely buy a few more of the small brass ferrules that hold the throttle and idle cables in the throttle housing, They're less than a buck a piece and take if from someone who lost one, get a spare or two. Also, before you take everything apart, it helps to read the step by step instructions in the manual to get familiar with the procedure. It can be a little much for a first timer, but take your time and you'll do just fine. Pay CLOSE attention to the recommendation for the shim in the brake lever, it's very easy to break the rear brake light switch.
