The plug connector is the standard two prong SAE that is used for a Battery Tender. I believe that the older heated gear also used this style of plug.
Currently, this connection is tied straight to the battery for use with a Battery Tender. With minor modifications, and remembering to trace the polarity from the battery to get it right, I am able to use my newer HD Heated vest with this connection. Being on the electrical panel, I just sit down on the bike, reach behind my left leg, and plug in.
I'm currently weighing my options for an SAE 12volt to mini usb 5 volt cable, something that will allow me to charge the bluetooth adapters I use for stereo and nav. They have a pretty good battery life, but for trips like Daytona where I'm out on the bike most of the day it would be nice to be ale to top them off during lunch.
I did the same thing in Jan, 2008 when I got the Harley heated jacket liner for Christmas. I hook the rheostat to the outer jacket so I can adjust the temp. The on/off switch that the jacket comes with makes the liner way too hot. I also use it for charging the battery with the tender. I detail bikes and a few of my customers liked this setup so much they asked me to do the same for them. Extra, $$$$ for me.
My FXDX came with the black wrinkle finish cover. Part#66361-04 Chicago Harley has it for $39.96 if your looking for new.
