Evenin' all... went by local Harley dealer and checked on price for a standard 10K service... 468 bucks ! 16 more if I want SynOils... that just blew my mind... thinking about changing oils myself, cleaning K&N filter/recharging,changing out plugs.. just not seeing the reasonto spend all that money and for what... what else are theyreally gonna do ?... and with every mile I put on her she just runs better and smoother.. What you all think ? R/Ed H. VaBch, Va
The biggest change in the 10k is that they replace your shock oil. If you can do that yourself then change the fluids, change the shock oil, and then do the other checks required or pay an Indy to lube your throttle/clutch and check/adjust the steering head bearing.
Mine was right around $380...save yourself the agony on the wallet and do it yourself if you have the space and tools. You will learn A LOT more about the bike, and have a better appreciation for it as well.
Buy a manual and take care of it yourself. None of this is rocket science. If you have mechanical aptitude and can follow directions it's a snap. Don't think you want to look forward to an expenditure every 5K. There is a lot of satisfaction in taking care of it yourself.

That's the best place to start. Too many new owners can't wait to get their hands on the new shiny stuff for the bike, never realizing that the Factory service manual and parts manual for your year/model are the best $100.00 accessories you'll ever buy. One fluid change and you've more than made up for the cost of the manuals.
So Cal Dealer 10,000 service totaled $564.10. 5.4 hours labor = $486.00, $76.10 parts. This was $30.00 higher for syn3 in all holes. Changed to Redline heavy duty Shockproof in tranny soon after. Next one I think I'll do myself.
just got the bike back from the 10k service. totalled about 600 bucks. I paid for it in the beginning with the financing. Stupid idea I realized. I really hate the dealership. Everything about all the people that work there sucks. Like the driver who delivered my bike to me today and waited for a tip. F*ck him. those guys were supposed to have it for me yesterday/ I got home and looked in the garage for the bike and it wasn't there, I had to call them this morning with the what the fugg is up line. the answer was that they didn't wash it so they'd get to it sometime today. Yeah I did cuss the beech out in the service dept. and the bike was delivered to me in an hour and a half. Anyway good times as always with henderson HD.
I am in for 1k service have no choice. It needs to be done by the dealer warranty issue. I just don't want to take a chance. The job they do in cleaning the bike gets on my nerves. I always have to clean it again water spots all over it. If thats the indicator on how they complete serviceI have to wonder. I haveordered the manual.
