Default Custom Swingarm

Has anyone replaced thier wideglide swing arm with a custom unit? Im looking at extending mine about 4 inches. If anyone has where did you get it or did you fabricate it? I am a certified welder/fabricator and I am thinking about tackling this project. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it.

Not me. Why would you want to??
What are the benefits??
...Hill Climbing

What about the law of unintended consequences??
Shock mounts, brake lines / rod, wiring, fender mounting, seat mount etc... NTM ride geometry

As for welding, making the jig to keep it square (straight, level and plumb may be more work then the cutting and re-welding. If it's off any amount - the bike will look like a crab rolling down the street.

Good luck dd

Are you gonna do frame and strut work or just shove the rear out?

It would look cool shove out the rear and move the seat back and down some.

This will be a major project, yes I will be moving the struts, move the fender rearward, I am adding a 200 tire and switching to chain drive etc. Thats one thing about a biker, always doing something,Im building a custom here, we are getting too many cookie cutter bikes out there.Im not the kind of guy that goes to a harley dealer to get something done. Ive done plenty of modifications in the past.I just want the longer look,I already have it drawn out, thought it through, just seeing if any of you have done it. Ive seen quite a few wide glides with the extended swingarm in magazines, just seeing if I could talk to someone that has done it.

Don't let the naysayers worry you about this project.........took a stock swingarm and extended two inches.....chain drive.....200mm rear tire (18 x 5.5 wheel).....8 1/2 in fender.......cut/rewelded fender struts outward to accomodate fender..........not that difficult of a project and no ill effects on handling etc....good luck

1. Thats one thing about a biker, always doing something,Im building a custom here, we are getting too many cookie cutter bikes out there.

2. Im not the kind of guy that goes to a harley dealer to get something done.

3. Ive done plenty of modifications in the past.

4. I already have it drawn out, thought it through, just seeing if any of you have done it. Ive seen quite a few wide glides with the extended swingarm in magazines, just seeing if I could talk to someone that has done it.
couple questions for you

1. what makes you diffrent from the next cookie cutter?

2. does that make you a biker if you install your own parts?

3. what installing bolt on modifactions?

4. if you have it drawn out send it to a fab shop. if i had the time i would have you send it to me, but it would be costly. because doing a 1 off peice is a pain and costly, because you haveto make a fixture to keep everything true, when your putting it all together. strecthing the swingarm is not that bad, but it takes time, but the cost of the fixture is were the expense comes in, thats if (you want it done right) not like a cookie cutter . because if you dont get you mounting holes and your pivot holes parallal, then you will go through bearing like mad. then evantually you will have to redo it all over again.and the other important thing is, who ever you have do this job, better be a good welder, not a hack weekend warrior welder to do this job. but if i had the time and you had the cash, i would be glad to do this job, but no time. but hope when you do get her all said and done, please post some pics. jackyl

Htrod02..............if you don't feel comfortable about welding/extending the swingarm yourself (and since Jackyl's busy).....give DG Chassis a call in Fla...talk to Dave and he'll put you one together for what a chrome OEM would cost but it will be made of chrome moly and much lighter/stronger.........the rest of the project is no big issue.
