Hi All, Lookin to complete the stage I Need advice on which direction to follow. 2006 FXDL with Screamin Eagle II pre EPA Slipons, and SERT so far. What are the pro's and cons of a SE Filter OrNess Big Sucker. Have heard that Big sucker holes don't quite match up. Which would choose? Thanks a bunch!
I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I bought the one that was convenient at the time and that happened to be the Big Sucker. There was a thread a while back with a few people talking about either the backing plate or the bolts on their big suckers breaking but it seemed to be fairly isolated given the number of people running that kit. I had no trouble installing mine or with holes not lining up. I first thought they didn't but realized the filter had to be turned a certain way to get the holes to line up and I was fine. From a performance perspective, both are about the same so I hear. I don't know for a fact but I've been told that the Big Sucker filter is actually a real K&N filter and the SE kit filter is not. Take that for what it's worth though...
Either works fine, just make sure you get a K&N filter too. Since you are already going the moco route w/SE slipons and sert, shop around for the SE Stage 1 intake @ 20% (Zanottis HD), it can be had as cheap as the big sucker around $112 if I remember right.
I have both, and the AN BS is the better of the two IMHO. it comes with a filter either similar to, or is a K&N. the design of the backing plate is better than the SE since it doesn't use tubes/hoses in the venting system. it vents through the banjo bolts that attach the backing plate to the engine, venting it into the throttle body bore, rather than inside the AC housing. Helps with the oil misting problems common on some bikes. Also get the chrome backing plate with it. Some good prices on the AN on the net.
Another vote for the AN BS. Have had the SE and AN BS and extremely glad I went to the AN. I bought the one with the chrome backer plate for $95 on Ebay, new in the box. Install was easy, no bolt issues as mentioned by others.
You Guys Rock! Thanks for the information. I went ahead and BoughtThe NessBig Sucker. Be here in about a week! Yeeehaa! Thanks again to all, your help is priceless!
