Default Hole

I got a 2006 Super Glide a few months ago. Just today I noticed today that there is a hole through the (I guess the axle) and seems like a bolt or something should be there but I'm not sure. Does anyone know what goes there if anything? If not, what's the hole through it for?

if it's what I am visualizing, it's supposed to be there...used to hold the axle from turning while you remove the nut on opposite end

That makes sense....just didn't want my wheel to come off going down the road. Nothing seemed loose and it rides fine. I just wanted to make sure.

That makes sense....

Hawk, the hole is for the insertion of a piece of7/16" round stock.
or a 7/16" drill bit.

To keep from pulling the axle out of position
when tightening the axle nut.

Good to look critically at your machine.
Keep it up.
Good practice.

I saw the same thing on my Fat Bob, and worried they forgot a bolt, so I went to the dealer and chinese engineered it, you know, looked at the other Bob they had, was the same, and figured they couldn't be that retarded twice and felt better. Then I looked in my service manual and saw that all was okay.

Yellowhawk, You got good answers to that particular question................ In that same general area, be conscieous of the axle cap.
The 2 screws/bolts that hold that on tend to loosen every once in awhile, as several on the forum have learned. Check em every several thousand miles or so. Da utter hole won't do ya much good ifin ya loose dat axle capinscrews.
