I was out riding (06 WG) this weekend in Christmas traffic. I was making a left turn from a 6 lane to a 4 lane road. Riding with my girlfriend sitting at the light to my right. Well the light changed and I took off, cutting the turn a little too sharp trying to give my girlfriend enough room to avoid the cars next to us (2 left hand turn lanes). I've been cut off at that intersection before. Anyway I clipped the curb with my left forward peg (3") extention, completely missed my foot peg, and it lifted my rear tire up and scooted me out to the right. Well I saved it, about had to change my shorts though, my girlfriend said she thought I was going down for sure. Stooped and took a look for damage and all I got were some scratches on the foot peg extension mount and a small one on the frame where the mid pegs would be on other dynas models. Lucky !!!! and stupid....
I saw something similar happen to a Roadkind, the highway bar cought the curb. But he was unable to save it. Glad you were able to save it with minimal damage.
Just have a discussion with her that you'll always take the lead in a turn, which means she should either start after you, or if you're both already moving riding two wide, she needs to drop back.
That way, you always know you have the full lane, and so does she. Might help you concentrate on the road, and less on what's going on with her since you know you both have a full lane width to make your turn.
A couple buddies and I have a rule that the inside lane always takes the lead. Takes the guess work out of where the other guy expects you to be so he can decide where to line up for the turn/curve.
I've ground pegs on my Lowrider but not like that! You should have just told her you wanted to show her some trick riding you've been practicing in the driveway while she's been away and then asked her what she thought? Just don't let her see that brown spot in yer shorts! Glad to hear you're OK! Another learning experience to share.
Glad you are okay and your bike too. When I first got a bike, my buddy who's been riding for years always liked to ride two wide. It made me pretty nervous at first...I was just really learning to ride. I had a few close calls turning too. I was always afraid I would run into a curb or run into him. I finally started backing off and letting him turn first just to be safe. Not so bad now but pretty freaky for me at first.
