Default Just curious - if anyone wants to answer

I don't know how many answers this will get, but I'll try it anyway.

I was sitting at a local aftermarket shop drinking coffee with 4 other bikers. The subject of legal concealed weapons came up. It turned out that 4 out of the five of us sitting there were wearing a legal handgun.

I guess it is because times have changed. Bikers are no longer the "outlaw - criminal - troublemaker" that we were once thought to be. For the most part, bikers today are well educated, professional men with reasonably upper incomes, thatis neededto pay for these scoots. And because of that, we are also not normally criminals as such.

I was just wondering how many of you carry a handgun when riding on a regular basis. I know I do. I consider a handgun like an American Express card, I never leave home without it.

And.......I would like to know what type, caliber, and how you carry it (always looking for a better idea).

For me, I have three. In the Winter, I carry a Smith CS9 in a Uncle Mikes nylon shoulder holster. When it is warmer and I don't have a heavy jacket on, I carry a Walthers (S&W) PPK/S in the same holster under my biker vest. For purely dress up times I carry a NAA mini in .17HMR in my pocket on ina boot holster.

But I am always looking for something newer - smaller - bigger bore - lighter- easier to conceal.

I have my CCW. The answer to your questions(do I, caliber, how) depends on
who,
what,
when,
where,
and why.

Probably 10% of the rides.

I own most calibers. My fav back pocket pistol is a Beretta 21A (.22lr)

If my wife & I are riding alone, I carry open with shoulder holster, left-hand draw so I can keep my hand on the throttle.
If I am alone riding in obscure & relatively untravelled areas, I carry w/ same set-up, .357 mag for a good opportunity to penetrate thru vehicle doors, windows , etc. If my weapon is ever unholstered in self-defense I plan to win.

Clutch that is an interesting question, and I believe I saw something posted about "carrying" on the general forum.

I don't own any guns, but I support the right, and am glad that other law abiding citizens do excersize that right.

Main reason I don't own a gun is they hurt people....... other reason I don't own/carry a gun is I would use it.

I figure everyone is better off, because I don't have a gun.

Not only do I carry 24/7, but im a CCW instructor. If im awake, im packing. There are just too many crazy's out there. My main carry gun is a S&W 696 3 inch 44spl. But at times I sometimes carry my Glock 20 10mm or my 4 inch Colt Python 357 mag.

It also matters as far as how big (or not) a person is and where that weight is located.

I am a fairly normal size guy at 5'8" and 155 lbs. I have trouble concealing a large handgun. I never carry a double stack for that reason. Plus, I feel I don't need a double stack. In Texas, they stress that "concealed means concealed" - a normal citizen is not supposed to be able to tell, even by the outline of your clothes, that you are wearing a weapon. So I am aware of how big is too big for me.

Caliber is not important to me. I have always believed the old saying that "it is better to hit with a .22, then miss with a .44". In my 9mm and my .380 I carry +P Corbon. That little .17HMR is a whistling sucker anyway.

Well I carry just about every where I go, but it comes with my job, in Law Enforcement. I use to not carry all the time when I was not at work but I keep seeing these mall shootings all over the country and I hold myself responsilbe if I was ever in that situation and did not have my piece to help out. Anyway I guess the answer is yes.
