Default Forward Controls Installed

I installed some forward controls today. I went with the Kuryakyn standard length kit. Here are my thoughts on the kit and the install. For the most part it was pretty easy and straightforward. this was the first time that I have installed forwards and I managed ok. Some snags that I ran into. The pin that holds the stock brake rod to the stock brake pedal was stuck. This caused some problems for me initially, but I sprayed it with WD-40 and it came out. The other problem I had was with the brake pedal pad. The kit comes with one of their ISO pads, but I wanted a different one. Well, the Harley one that I bought didn't line up with the hole in the brake pedal. I ended up filing the Hole bigger to allow it to work. Everything else went ok. Didn't get to test ride it though, because of the weather. Hopefully I will be able to ride tomorrow.

hello, i just did an install also....weather in michigan will not allow me to try them out...please let us know how they work out for you. let us know if everything stays tight, that's my only concern. i think they are very good looking, far better than the stock harley. good luck\\

Put mine on in less than an hour. Have had them on for 1800 miles. Only problem Ihad was the shift lever engaging then spline. Apparently I didn't get it quite tight enough the 1st go around. Damn good thing I always carry a tool bag. Would have been somewhat difficult to find a 1/4" allen wrench 20 miles form the nearest gas station when the shift lever repositioned itself

it took me about an hour to an hour and a half.No install problems...i am very concerened about things staying tight. 2007fxd has them on and hasnt had any problems so i'm hopefull. i am more concerned with the brake side coming loose. i have mine really tight and for now they seem ok but i will not know for sure until spring when i can get out and ride. i also have to make some decisions as far as highway pegs to move my feet to...might put some on the engine guard or put the mids back on and fold them up when not in use.

It took me about 2 hours to install the kit. My new brake pedal pad did not line up with the hole so it took some time to file it bigger. I had no major problems. The shift arm was hard to get on the first time. I had to hit with a rubber mallet. But I took it off to reposition it and when I reinstalled it with some anti seize it went back on easy. I was able to run it around the block but the weather was to bad to go far. Everything seemed good. It shifts smooth and the brakes were fine. I used alot of blue loctite on the bolts so I think it will be fine.

I have the HD forward controls on my 2004, but didn't want to go with engine guards for my highway pegs. I found the Kuryakyn universal mustache bar worked really well on my bike. I don't have any pics yet 'cause the ISO pegs have not come in. But the bar looks great and fit perfect. Completely adjustable too.
