Bought a second hand '08 Fat Bob a year ago. Bike was lightly customised, not sure if forward controls are standard HD. Just got a Kuryakyn forward control extension kit for it.
When I tried to assemble the extended brake controls I hit a hurdle. The rod will not line up with the foot brake - the brake pedal sits about a quarter to a half inch to the right of the rod tip (away from the bike).
Pipes are stock, and looking at the brake controls I think they're stock but am not certain.
I had huge dramas just getting the Kuryakyn kit in the first place and now I'm stuck and very sad.
Has anyone else used Kuryakyn forward control extensions before? If so, have you had any problems installing them? Or did they slot right on? I'm beside myself with biker grief at the moment
I added 3" Kury extensions to my '04 wide glide. They lined up. Only complaint I have is that the brake rod could have been an inch longer to help brake pedal angle. First thing I would do in your case, is make sure your part number is correct for your bike fitment. They could have shipped wrong, you could have ordered wrong. Second, remember they design these things to fit stock bikes. Have you altered or added anything that could change the fitment in that area? Third, customer service techs should be there and have some knowledge for issues like yours, give them a call. Clearances are tight with these products, I ran into that with my install. The gap between my brake rod and aftermarket Samson street sweepers is very small. I think stock pipes, the clearance would not be an issue.
Read a post a while ago, same situation, fellow ended up moving the adapter plate either to the inside or the outside if you follow me, then it lined up.
In pic #2, the rectangular plate that moves your controls ahead is shown mounted to the inside of your brake arm....what about the other end of the plate, do you have the option of mounting it on the inside? If so, this would move everything inwards.
Crisis averted. The problem is now clear. Ironically the problem was the stock parts.
I bought the part from Cruiser Customizing website. Just checked out the Kuryakyn website - the kit doesn't work with a stock exhaust, which was not stated on Cruiser Customizing.
