Default RE: Next Step In My Purchase and Help Needed with EFI Stage One

Funny how quickly things can change... but finally, my decision has been made. Yeah, I've bounced around a bit, but I give myself props for effort and doin' my homework. Here it is:

2005 FXDI - Vivid Black - $14,178 tax and license included
5-year extended warranty - $ 904

TOTAL $15,082.00

Just so you know, the two South Orange County Harley dealers quoted me $800 MORE .... take it or leave it! I left it alright and will do business with this Harley dealer about 45 miles north.

I'm going there Saturday to put a grand down... order the bike, and I should get it in April. I thought about asking the dealer to pump the sales price a bit allowing me to finance the parts necessary for the Stage One, but I found a few internet sites that have great reps and excellent prices (https://www.directparts.com/cgi-bin/...e/Catalog/1046 and http://www.krooners.com/krooners.htm).

If you compare the prices of V&H Pipes on these two sites to a dealer's prices... well, no need to say much more.

Lastly, could someone please tell me the optimal process and parts necessary to do a Stage One with an EFI Super Glide. Thanks again.

Congrats on that purchase...on the Stage I, you'll probably want to do the K&N filter...you'll need to have the dealer do the remap for you since you have the EFI...that's gonna cost a little. Put your pipes on, filter on and then take it back for the remap. Only other alternative it get one of the programmers.

I would like to get all the parts necessary prior to taking it to the dealership, just so I won't have to come back. They will want me to purchase the 'Tuner'... which goes about $400+, but someone once told me that there is another programmer that is about half that price and works just as well. If you know of that one, please let me know. The cost to do this Stage One with the EFI is only a couple of hundred dollars more to my understanding.

Last question: Is it possible for me to purchase all the parts separate from the dealer, or are there certain items that I can only get from them when they do the Stage One? The dealer I am purchasing will pad the price a bit to allow me to get as many of these items as possible tied to the financing, so if I know ahead of time what is needed and what the prices would be on the internet, I might save some money as opposed to being at the mercy of the dealership.

I don't know what parts you can purchase seperate from the dealer, except pipes for sure, depends what you are going to get. I don't know about the air cleaner. If you are going to go with the Screamin Eagle, this might be a dealer only item. As far as the reflash of the computer, it is about $148.00 to do from the dealer, and no need to buy a programmer.

If I had just paid $904.00 for an extended warranty, I would get with the dealer and find out what I could and could not purchase and still maintain the warranty. If the warranty could be voided for not using Harley Parts, I certainly wouldn't buy somewhere else just to save a couple of bucks. If the dealer is going to add the cost of the Stage 1 to the price of the bike for financing purposes, why not just go with SEII mufflers, SE air cleaner and the factory remap of the computer? This will be a good combo, and not break the bank.

Regards,

Bill

Dude,

Just buy something and stop being such a girl. Your buying a Harley not a Vespa, dont worry so much. Your indecisiveness is driving me crazy

Nuttin' wrong with using the forum for what it's meant for, continue to ask as you would like.

If you're wanting all those parts and not wanting to get them from your dealer, then you can look online, check ebay. Lots of dealers selling on ebay at pretty good prices.

You might want to take this opportunity to start a relationship with your dealer, let him do this stuff initially rather than walking in with $500 worth of stuff from somewhere else...your choice.

Good luck with it and let us know what you do.

Pilot.... I plan to do just that. I spoke to the Service Manager today at San Juan Capistrano Harley and he suggested that I do the following for my Stage One:

I supply the Pipes.

He supplies the SE Air Cleaner ($139), Download ($150), and Labor to do it all including Pipes (3.5 hours @ $75 per hour).

I can get the V&H Big Shots Staggered for $429 and free shipping from Direct Parts. Everything done for Stage One on an EFI for less than $1000. I've been told this is a pretty good price. Thanks for the heads up regarding a relationship with my local dealership.

The only curveball thrown to me by the Service Mgr. is that it would be best to wait until 500 miles to do the Stage One. He said he would do it at even 100 miles, but it would be important for me to "take it easy" and not "hot rod" it since it wouldn't be broken in yet. Make sense to you?

Fuente,

There are conflicting opinions on whether or not to wait. My dealer said nothing to me about it, and I had mine installed before I picked it up.

There is a break in period no matter what, you keep it below 3000 RPMS for first 50 miles, and below 400 RPMS for first 500...

I think those numbers are right, but may be off a little bit, as I don't exactly remember what the dealer told me...either way, the point is that you will "take it easy" in the beginning no matter what.

Buy your pipes, let your dealer do the work, I'd do it all at pickup so you don't have to go back later, and ride it...careful not to wreck due to the big perma grin you'll have on your face.

Each dealer has their own take on this...
Wanted me to wait until the 1000 mile was done?
As long as the dealer does the work the warranty stay intact.

I am definatly going to wait untill my 1000 mile service before I do stage 1, I want to see how much differance it makes by comparison. Plus I want to make sure there are no bugs in the bike first so they can't blame it on any add-ons.
