one more thing...

th 03 hype is just that. hype. The only thing it might buy is a better trade in.. I suppose in another 100 years it could be a collectable.. but do you want to ride this bike, or just let it collect dust in the garage while you wait for it to be a collectable?

I have an 03 Heritage classic.. I bought it to ride.. and would have honestly preferred a bike from another year.

Long story made longer...

DONE DEAL!!!

I feel like I gave birth...lol, (I'm a guy, by the way). 6 hours of haggling with the guy. I priced every shop in the area and there was nothing in this price range or this nice (without a lot more cash). I checked both of my banks and got the same interest (10.5... High I know, but that was going straight to my banker). I ended up with 10.25 from the dealer. I don't know what's up with that. The dealer told me they have started quoting everyone 11.5 now because BofA has raised their rates. And trust me guys... I worked hard on getting the best rate I could find. We use 2 banks and the 10.5 was the best until the dealer called. BofA actually wouldn't loan me the $$$ for a bike at all unless I went through a dealer. Chase wanted 10.5 with a shorter payback which raised the monthly out of my budget. I'm not sure if anyone has bought in the last month, but appearently the banks (in Texas anyway) are getting really tight. And the dealer ended up getting me a better rate than I could get going straight to my banks (which I have a long credit history with). My rating was A+ (whatever that means... I assume that's good...lol).

I guess I may not know what comes stock on an 03 "100th Anniversary" (I quote that because the dealer seems to think that means something special), but the dealer kept saying it has a lot of extras. Here's what it has...

Billit grips with the palm throttle pad,
Locking Throttle (cruise control thing),
Chrome Motor Guard,
Adjustable Windshield (not the clip on),
Chrome Forward Controls,
Double Seat (w/ rear pegs),
Very small sissy bar (useless, but there),
1 Micro bag (for lipstick... or a single beer?)
and Mag Wheels.

The color is basic black. I priced a black 02 with none of the bling and twice the miles this morning at 12,500. Everything I checked on e-bay (ended auctions) was at least 11,000. So I got it!

Do I feel like I got a deal?
No.

Do I feel like I got ripped off?
No.

Do I have that ****-eatin grin?

It's starting!!!

My biggest disappointment was that the guy wouldn't budge on anything. I tried to get him to drop $500... nope. I tried to get him to throw in a taller sissy bar & pad... nope. I tried to get him to toss in a helmet... Nope. He stuck firm to the point I was asking about a different bike... Nope. He just wouldn't budge. I started looking at Sportsters again... New ones this time. My wife said no to that (lol... long story).

So anyway... I am now the wigged out owner of a 2003 Super Glide. I don't know if I need congrats or condolences! I would've taken delivery tonight but someone left it keyed on last night and the battery was dead. So they're taking care of that for me. I take it tomorrow at noon (and it's supposed to be cold tomorrow... dangit).

*Falls down from exhaustion*

*edit*

I just wanted to add that there were 0 new ones as pretty as this one for close to the price. They were all pretty plain compared to this... In the end it was budget driven. I could afford the monthly on this... I couldn't on a new one.

I'm glad you got what you wanted.

I have been following this and your previous thread about buy a bike anf I have to say I can't believe the interest rate your bank is charging you. I just bought a 06 Night train and while I was setting up the financing with the bank I thought they would like to put a lien on the bike but my bank manager has let me get this as a line of credit ($21,000 Canadian 8.5%). I traded in my 05 Sportster XLC 1200 as my down payment as I added about $15,000 in extras for the new bike.

In 2 years I have progressed from a 90 Yamaha 535 Virago to a 05 Sportster XLC Custom to a 2006 Night Train, oh what a tangled web I have woven.

Oh I know all about the grin, I won't get my new bike for a few weeks and I still can't stop smiling.

I just love my new addiction and I hope you love yours just as much.

Post a pic when you can.

Congrats. Hope you and your wife enjoy the ride. Do yourself a favor (and her) and get a taller backrest and nice touring seat if she is going to be riding with you. If she's not comfy, you're gonna hear about it... and she'll start wondering if it was a good idea to get a bike and so on. If momma ain't happy, nobody's happy.

Ride safe

Congratulations! It may have been a struggle, and the payments may seem a little much on cold mornings like this one, but it will all be worth it later this year when you're pointing your Dyna down some squiggly country road on a perfect day.

The stubby backrest may be just for show, but at least you've got the mounts, and I doubt you and the wife will be going on any intergalactic trips this winter, so I'd watch eBay for a taller upright - sometimes things go pretty cheaply, and there are parts for '03 Dynas out the wazoo. Plus it sounds like you got quite a few extras compared to your original post - shield, forward controls, etc., so I can just imagine it's looking good in your driveway! Join HOG (there's a chapter in Ft. Worth, and one in Bedford if you're near NE Tarrant) or some other riding group and put some miles on that thing - and I hope to see you at some little roadhouse in the country this spring!

Ax, congratulations! Sounds like you really wanted the bike - and sometimes you can't get that "perfect deal" but "close enough" is ok - sounds like if you'd walked, you woulda been kicking yourself. Enjoy it and don't look back!

I know that grin.

Congrats Ax! Enjoy the ride. (you struggled for it, I'd say that was marked as paid to me. [8D])

Congrats - you'll forget about all that interest rate junk after you make that first payment and then it will be all grins. Don't look back - just ride the heck out of it and be safe! PS: Taller sissy bars can be easily found on e-bay for cheap.
