A belt sander will work wonders...................NO NO NO, I was just kiddin.

You can try to peel it off a little when hot, then use any cleaner that is not harsh to chrome, when it cool (I use WD40), after that a little wax or chrome polish to the shields, and you are good 'till next time.......... Sorry you are selling.

Thank you all for your answers. If I can't get them off now then something is seriously wrong with me. I hate to seel it. It's my pride and joy and there is no other bike in the world that I would rather have but I recently had back surgery and woke up paralyzed from the chest down so my riding days are over.

if you do get 0000 steel woolyou can find it at any hardware store. I think I got mine at home depot for 3$

Also if you want to make it easier warm up the pipes and then use the steel wool.

I also use it to clean my spoke rims and other chrome pieces. It works really well.
